Snowcat chinos, Nicky top and Jules in silk twill stripe

Here are some more of J.Crew new arrivals that I tried on before my vacation:

Bennett
cropped chino in snowcat

Bennett cropped chino in snowcat

capris size 6, run small
I liked the print and the fit and I think they are an alternative to uber expensive black and white photo flower print . Of course, they are not as unusual and distinctive but that may be an advantage. I thought they are cafe capris but they are Bennett chinos. They are more fitted that cafe capris. I was always a 4 in cafe capri but I grabbed a 6 in these (because I could not find a 4) and they were perfect, I would not want them any smaller. I also took a 6 in regular Bennett chinos (see them HERE), so the fit is consistent for Bennetts.

They also fitted in better in the rear and even if I tried them mostly for the blog, I am now tempted by them.

Nicky top in

top size 6 TTS
This is also similar to other camis, like Naomi but I liked the print. It would layer nicely under cardigans and blazers but it was nothing special imo. I took my regular size 6 in this one. The shoulder are pretty narrow and you can wear a regular bra but a racerback would probably be better. Herringbone pattern gives it some texture and makes it more interesting, plus it adds a menswear touch to otherwise feminine shape.

Jacket size Medium, TTS
I have reviewed this peplum jacket previously (see it HERE in silver) but I just wanted to show you another color it come in.

I still think this is interesting and I am not sure which color I like better. What do you think?

Jules dress in
 stripe silk twill

dress size 6
This dress is short!  Shorter than some other Jules versions. Snowcat version was longer, for example. I felt indecent in it and I would not dare to bend.  The silk was substantial, almost a bit stiff and with slight sheen to it. The sleeves were barely full length so I imagine they will be bracelet length on some of you.  The shape is similar to other versions of Jules, but with no pockets. I wish they would make it 4 inches longer.
Short!

That's all folks!
Do you like any of the items reviewed?

Are you bored with the sameness of the J.Crew designs recently?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. I like this color of the peplum jacket better than the silver. I don't see it on-line. Is it an in-store item only?

I really like the print in the Natasha top. I've been wanting one of these tops. This may be the one. Thanks for the reviews.

    1. Hi Maryeb,
I think the jacket will be in stores/online later this month. I tried it on in the concept store which receives inventory ahead of the regular rollouts.

  2. I prefer the darker peplum jacket too, J Crew does seem very samey, I think if I had been buying it for years I would have stopped by now, or tapered down to two pieces a season and then just replaced whatever wore out.

    1. I am getting tired of all the similar designs and nothing really excites me, but that's good for my wallet.

  3. I definitely like the darker(blue?) color better. I like the Nicky print, but don't love the collar. That dress is childishly short. What a shame, because it flattering and lovely otherwise!

  4. I tried the Nicky last night and took a size smaller than my usual JC size. I was surprised I liked the print as much as I did. Still, it wasn't worth full price for me. Thanks for all the great reviews.

    1. I liked the Nicky top and you are probably right about the size, I usually have to size up to accommodate my chest and took 8 in several tops this year but this one was good in 6. I agree that is nice but overpriced.

  5. I like the darker blue myself - it is a flattering cut on you!

I saw the pants in store, but they didn't speak to me - of course the prohibitively expensive ones make me swoon!

I tried the herringbone blouse on as well. it was a nice fit but didn't make me feel like the polka dot blouse or the byzantine blue, so let it pass.

    1. I think darker blue will be better for fall, I think I liked the silver because we are in the middle of the summer and I am mostly wearing light colors.

  6. AJC - have you seen the organza sheath yet?

    1. I haven't seen it, it may be online only.

  7. I wasn't sure about the snow cat print but they look nice on you! I think it's do-able as long as you don't pair it with snow cat top 0_0 since thats a bold bold print.

    1. ITA, no hook-ups with this one, even if it looked good in the catalog styled with Icon trench over it.

  8. Good point about the sameness, seems like the only thing that changes from year to year are the construction details - hems, seam allowances, linings, waistbands, depth of pockets, size of beltloops....

    1. I am all about basics and repeating what already works but it is hard to get excited about the same dress, just in different color/print. Booooring.

  9. I tried on a beautiful Jules-style dress at J. Crew recently. Can't remember the color name but it could have been that jade color. Gorgeous, but I told the SA same thing, that it needed 4 more inches. Why is the Jules dress so short? (and has anyone seen that jade green dress yet? so pretty and sadly just too short!).

I like the lighter color in the peplum jacket. I despise the Bennett chinos on myself but they look nice on you. They are unforgiving on me, even in larger sizes. I'm feeling meh about the snowcat print. The Nicky top is nice enough but I probably wouldn't buy it unless I needed a layering piece under jackets.

    Thanks for the reviews!!

    1. I saw that dress in store. Agree that it looks very pretty but I don't even want to try it on knowing how short it is. I seriously think they will sell moch more of them if they did make them 4 inch longer. They could easily be hemmed for those who find them too short. If this is cost cutting it is very short sighted when those dresses end up in rock bottom sale. My older daughter would wear this length but she is not interested in J.Crew dresses at all, too expensive for her and too old lady-ish for her fashion sense.

  10. Thanks for the reviews. I wish i could wear the Bennett chinos. They are too form-fitting and thin for my figure.

Honestly, I am so over the same cuts in different fabrics, colors with various cost-saving measures. How many schoolboys, cafe capris, Jules dresses, Chanel-like boxy jackets, camis, cardigans, Tippis does one need?

    1. I liked the fit of the snowcat pants much more than regular Bennett chinos, which I hated. I thought they were cafe capris, just running small. They are definitely size smaller and more 'rear hugging', maybe you will like them better if you size up? They did not feel thin.

  11. I like this colorway too in the peplum jacket but I think you should wait on this one, it could be something you get tired of.
Honestly, I don't feel this collection at all, it doesn't seem cohesive (I know we are not talking high fashion but it looks like they wanted to please too many and in the end they are too predictable). I am actually reconsidering the boy shirt in polka dots that you have, it is the best thing that they put out along with the liberty shirt in Indian red which is simply stunning IRL (but I need like a bullet).
    Thanks for the reviews!

    1. I agree Ema, it does seem all aver the place and I don't like anything from the fall lookbook. It never happened to me, I cannot even make a fall wish list. I like that boy shirt and the liberty shirt in d'anjo (sp?) but I have too many button downs already.
The jacket will probably make it to sale, I will definitely wait, especially that I am afraid it may pill and/or snag.

  12. Thanks for the reviews .With regards to the Jules dress who are they marketing this for? I'm 5'3" and it was way too short for me. I love the style but it seems shorter than last time. So far my faves are the Liberty shirt and striped cashmere sweater.

    1. ITA, like I replied to Cate, I think that's why all those dresses end up selling for 75% off.
I would buy this cashmere sweater and the liberty shirt if they had prices from 2009/2010, $118 for a shirt and $158 for the sweater.

  13. I do appreciate the reviews and photos as always. It's incredibly helpful. I have been griping that there is no J.Crew in Calgary but seeing the fall rollout it's really not a bit deal because I don't see anything that I'm dying to have. I may order a few things to see them IRL but it's not going to be much.

  14. I am not seeing anything I would consider adding in, but I have spent my budget on corduroy pants, those Collection tee's and ryder boots. My one silly purchase this season was my elephant bracelet.
I am trying a few things in Atlanta but I think the things I ordered will be returned. I'll be sure to bring my camera though!
That Jules dress! It works perfect on my sister, but she is only 4'10" and 80 lbs. The length is great on her. It probably wouldn't even cover my butt.

    1. Do those corduroy pants fit you well? I have few matchsticks but they fall off my butt and I tried the trousers last year but they were too Mr Rogers and utilitarian.
4'10" and 80 lbs, wow she is tiny! Somehow I doubt that this is wide enough demographic for J.Crew.

  15. Love the dress, but for man's POV the chino and top prints are a bit overboard. :)
