I liked this skirt a lot. It is shorter than it looks in the picture and more of a mini length. It is also more a-line than a pencil. It runs small. I have tried size 8 and it was a good fit. I could probably wear a 6 but it would sit higher on the waist and make the hemline shorter. I even tried a 10 but it was way too big in the hips and not flattering. I usually wear a 6 in Banana Republic skirts. Color is very pretty and it would go with many things this summer. It is very similar to modern red, so I would describe it as orange red, but it is more red than orange.

This is a nice easy skirt that would be easy to dress up or down. The length is just right. I did not like the elastic waistband but it could easily be covered with a belt. It is slightly less orange that it appears in the picture and the color is somewhere between orange and coral. It fits TTS, for Banana Republic skirts. I took medium and I thought it was a correct fit.

If you are looking for a simple, well fitting white pencil skirt this is a good choice and price, especially on sale with 40% off. I took my regular BR size 6 and it was good but close fit. I tried an 8 and it was too big and shapeless. The fabric is not shiny at all, I would say it is very similar to J.Crew 1035 cotton. The waist is more defined and the wide band is good for the not-so-flat belly area.

This skirt fits less a-line and more like a pencil than it looks in the website picture. It is comfortable and good length. Fits TTS and can sit a little lower on hips because it is relatively wide in the waist area. I was not a fan of exposed side zipper. It would bother me less if it was in the back. The tag says it can be hand washed which to me also means machine washable, huge plus for simple summer skirt.

This top looks nice in the web picture but it was very disappointing IRL. The fabric feel was really yucky and it was way too big in size 8. This would probably be much improved in size 6 but the fabric turned me off and I did not want to bother trying smaller size.

Nice top, great colors but clingy. I tried size Small and Medium and there was not much difference but I would go with Medium. It is long and it bunches up in the bottom. I liked the sleeve length, buttons at the sleeve cuffs and the neckline. The stripes were nicely matched. If you tuck it in or if you don;t have anything to hide in the belly/hip area it is a great top.

That's all folks!
Are you interested in Banana Republic offerings these days?
Are you planning to buy anything with the 25% off or are you waiting for 40% off?
Anybody has a 40% coupon they don;t need? I tried to ask in store but they said they didn't have any :(
Went to purchase the timeless tee and the BRCOOL promo code does not work. oh well - sign I should wait for 40% off? :)
ReplyDeleteI tried it for Trina Turk skirt but TT line is excluded :(
DeleteThe 40% is great but you have to have a physical coupon and most of the time it is in store only.
Thanks for your comment today. I am dying for the new Autumn rollout, when do you think it will happen?
ReplyDeleteI think we will some Fall items online on 7/21 and then more in August. My store PS told me they should be getting fall items next week.
DeleteI have one(from the Riverside sales people)-just let me know how to get it to you if you want it. It is for next Wednesday. You may leave the information on my blog- knityarns.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteI am probably better off with out it!
Pat
PS- I have noticed that sometimes I get the same coupons in my inbox as I get in store. Are you on their e-mail list?
Thank you Pat! I left you message on your blog but there is no email address. If you email me (my email is under contact me in my profile) I will reply back to your email and maybe we can figure it out.

DeleteHi, after reading your reviews, I went to the BR in town here in Singapore. I tried on the accordian pleat skirt but in blue. I tried size M and it fits me perfect! I really love it and I'll definitely buy it. :) I also tried on the pants and size 6 fits me very well. Can I check what is your take between JCrew and BR pants? We don't have Jcrew here in Singapore, and only 2 BR. So I can't really compare and can only rely on blogs like yours for advices.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I could help! I take size 6 in BR pants but usually a 4 in J.Crew. I like the fit of BR pants better, especially Martin.
DeleteYes, your reviews are especially helpful to me because I realize we are about the same size. =)
DeleteI only managed to try the Sloan ankle pants. I like how they fit my legs and are stretchy. I didn't know they have Martin. Do you think Martin will be even better? =D
Can I ask if the 40% off next week valid online? The things I'm eyeing now are all new arrivals. :( which is going put a dent on my wallet... ;)
ReplyDeleteI think 40% is in store only with an actual paper coupon that you usually get if you purchase something in store in the preceding weeks. But they may have a separate online promotion as well.
DeleteWould you be able to advise if I should use the 25% to get some new arrival stuff from BR? Or should I wait for end of season sale or something? I am not very familar with the sales in US. Thank you so much!
DeleteI am eyeing on:
1) Accordion pleat skirt (I tried it because of how good you look in this)
2) Allover lace tee
3) Abstract print silk sheath (Super smooth silk!)
4) Waffle-knit open cardigan (I have never worn such soft cotton cardigan in my life!)
I don't want to scare you if I were to translate the above from Singapore dollars to US$. But each item costs about 40 to 50% more here. =(
Thanks for these reviews!!! I have an extra set of 40% off coupons if you still need them! My email address is jcrewismyfavstore@gmail.com Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteDo u think I should use the current 25% off and get some new arrival items? Or should I wait for them to go on sale? :)
ReplyDeleteI believe that everything alwaysgo on sale eventually. It depends how long are you willing to wait. Setimes I prefer to buy earlier and wear it more times in the season .
DeleteI only managed to try the Sloan ankle pants yesterday. They are stretchy and comfortable. =) Do you think Martin be even a better choice?
ReplyDeleteI will like to get from BR with the discount:
1) Waffle-knit open cardigan (very nice and soft)
2) Allover lace tee
3) Accordion pleat skirt
4) Abstract print silk sheath (very flattering on my pear shape body)
Need your advice since I am not familiar with BR sales.
Thank you so much for sharing tips with overseas readers like me! =D
I stopped in tonight and they were handing out a 25% off coupon. I've also gotten a 20% off coupon valid from 7/12-7/15, and a $30 off a purchase of $100 or more, valid 7/19-7/25. I haven't seen a 40% off coupon, though. Those last 2 came in the mail.
ReplyDeleteThey have some great things right now. In addition to what you posted, they have the most adorable striped short-sleeve t-shirt dress (white with blue stripes, almost looks like a J. Crew Maritime) but the fit was all wrong on me. I don't know how they messed that up - a M was really tight but a L was gaping across the neck and shoulders. I really wanted that, why BR why?! lol
Too bad Cate, I though this striped dress was very cute.
