J.Crew New Arrivals Links And Picks - September 2012

J.Crew updated their website with the new arrivals today! They are also offering free shipping with no minimum, which is always great. I realized, that although I have seen many of the new arrivals in concept store, I have only tried on a very few. I was just uninspired with the recent rollouts, which seemed to recycle the same old ideas and silhouettes.

In fact, I had a '25% off' note on my account (I did not get the actual code) that I never used. There was nothing I wanted to buy or even try.  I think this was a first time in years that it happened to me.

Here are the links to the items I already reviewed:

I did not review the Jules paisley dress (it seemed obscenely short), but I wanted to show you this picture because I believe the colors are pretty accurately represented. You can also see the proportions, it is probably size 0 showing and it looks more like a top, imo.

Of the items I reviewed, I only liked the coat (but I absolutely do not need it) and the stovepipe trousers, but not at the current price, or even with the 20% off.

There are few things I like from the newest rollout. Nothing I must have, but some items I am interested in, at least enough to try them out, at some point:

Collection cashmere ribbed sweater
Collection cashmere ribbed sweater
I think this may be a plush cosy sweater to wear on cold, winter days.

Peplum stripe top
Peplum stripe top

I am mildly obsessed with peplum tops, so this is of some interest, but I hope they will add solids and more colors

Collection leather-trim peacoat
Collection leather-trim peacoat
Another coat that I absolutely not need. I do like the leather trim, it gives a classic coat a little edge and I think it may actually be practical, but of course it would add to the cost of dry cleaning.

Colorblock check mini

This skirt may be too short, but I think it is duable if it drapes well and I can size up. Maybe there is some fabric to let down. Even with the shorter length, it would be cute with tights, boots and cashmere sweater. The key here will be the drape, if it is too thick and sticks out, it will not work for me.

Harper leather boots
Harper leather boots
Black leather boots are a 'maybe' item on my list, so I may check these out. I like the clean lines and full length zipper. I have few pairs of J.Crew boots that I love, but  in the last two years the construction was not so great, so we shall see. For this price, or even with the discount, there is plenty of fish in the sea, lol.

Printed wool scarf

I tried this scarf on and I thought the colors were very flattering. It would go with all those burgundy items very well.

And finally, something I liked in Lookbook, but it looks rather awful in this stock picture:

Collection shearling-trim trench

This has a lot of going on and may be hot mess IRL, but I still would like to see it. Of course, the price is way out of my budget.

  1. The colorblock check mini is one of the few new arrival items I am digging. I do also like the leather-trim peacoat and am kind of on the market for a new winter coat but I was waiting for JC's typical winter coat rollout, because I haven't seen anything yet that has wow'd me. Maybe I should just wait until the Etta pumps go on sale.

    1. Oh, I can totally see you rocking the check mini Lisa. It may be harder for me, Ema says it has a small waist and it would be hard to wear it lower on hips. Bummer!

    1. Yeah it is yawn so far, but maybe I will warm up to it. I think I am really shopped out and crewlade is wearing off.

  3. Hi - I am still looking (it's lunch here) but no "OMG!" moments of extreme enthusiasm... I missed the pink scarf - that would likely be good with my colouring...

  4. Hmmm, yes what I like is the blackwatch coat and of course I have no need of another coat!
I also think the check mini is very nice, I like the fabrics they used on it.
Thanks for doing this review summary post! :)

    1. I never liked blackwatch it always seemed too dark or something for me. But I also thought I would never wear burgundy again...

  5. It seems like they've taken all the good stuff, marked it as "Collection", and added $200 to the price. If I roll my eyes any harder, they're going to get stuck that way.

Out of the Collection items that might truly be worth the price, the Cashmere Schoolboy Blazer looks really lovely, and that Collection Officer's Jacket is SHARP. I hope someone reviews it irl b/c I'm curious to see if they cheaped-out on the brass buttons.

I'm sorry, but I think that Shearling-Trim trench is so, so ugly. Maybe I'd feel differently if it were all one color, or if it was the classic camel/cream. The more they push colorblocking, the more my response becomes, "Die, colorblocking."

    1. hehe, you are right on the money Whitney! I wanted to like Shearling coat but it does seem ugly on the mannequin.
Die colorbloking, lol. I actually like colorblocking but I agree it is totally overdone recently.

  6. Thanks for the review round up. I always re-check before I go out shopping. I went in to see the black watch plaid Trench Topper, but the GSP store did not have it. That was really the only item that captured my attention, although of course $378 is quite pricey.

  7. The check mini is longer than some of the minis of a few seasons ago, but still will be too short for those that want it just above the knee. It's nice, though. The color of the trench is really pretty on you. I saw the hen shirt irl. It's not a must have for me, but very cute. I don't know about that Cosby sweater concept, but I must say you look pretty good in it.

    1. I actually really like the sweater but I wish that the sleeves were narrower and it wasn't inside out. I wonder if you can remove the tag and wear it outside in?

  11. The peplum top looks cute and I like the Harper boots too. And the pink coat. I agree that Jules dress looks like a top, but I love the print. You know we'll see the print in a scarf or an iPhone case or a blouse eventually, so I'm passing on the too-short Jules. I can't understand the inside out Cosby sweater at all.

I would love to be a fly on their wall and hear the reasoning for why they do what they do. The J. Crew design & styling meetings would make the best reality show ever, don't you think? I'd watch!

My picks: I like the Snowcap Quilted Jacket and the Barbour Beadnell Jacket, too. Well I like them in theory, anyway, since I haven't tried them on. I bought the pink coat you tried on and I am waffling because of the short belt. Since it was an online purchase, I still have some time to think about it.

  12. The by sweater would drive me crazy, only seeing it on the table I have the urge to turn it inside out. The mini is really cute and I agree with gigi, it isn't as short as the minis of the past two seasons but it is difficult to wear lower. I tried it with the jeweled collar schoolboy and I would have been tempted by the whole outfit if the colors matched (tgey don't, they are slightly different).
I really like that pink coat on you, the color really goes well with your coloring.

  13. Well the new collection came a day early and maybe it was a early because they had to pick me up off the ground. The prices are going through the roof. So expensive and AJC you should see the Canadian screen. I do like the wool check pants on you. The pea jacket with leather trim looks interesting . Would love to see you in it . I received my manor purple herringbone pencil skirt today and it's perfect thanks to you.
