Well, this fall J.Crew released the same print in a different colorway, this time in black and white:
Silk boy shirt in heart throb |
I tried my regular size 6 and the fit was good. The fabric is 92% silk and 8% spandex, so it does have some stretch to it. It wasn't gaping at the chest but the fit was rather boxy (so was the last year's version) and the shirt is not very long. This may be good news if you are petite and hate the too long shirttails, but if you are taller, the shirt may be too short.and will not stay tucked in.

Talking about crimson maple, I know I have said that I didn't like it but I have to take it back. I am not sure if the golden burgundy color is different, I was under the impression they are the same ( I can tell you heather cabernet and heather burgundy are about the same). When I received my order with golden burgundy long No2 double serge cotton pencil skirt, I did not even take it out of the package. The color seemed brown and dull. Maybe I should have taken it out and tried on.
Anyway, I did try the crimson maple skirt and I like the color after all. As for the wool, it feels good and substantial, maybe even better than other colors I tried. I have no problem with the quality in this skirt. If it is a little thinner, it does not bother me, although I disliked the heather acorn version and I though it felt cheap.
Shirt $135 |
I thought styling the black and white shirt with the skirt worked quite well. I am also wearing a perfect fit tan in heather cabernet, which creates illusion if a dress under a shirt.
Another combination I would like to try is wearing the skirt with navy polka dots or navy stripes. You can see it above with navy wool polka dot scarf. The scarf was very flattering and I would like to try it with my navy peacoat.

That's all folks!
What do you think of the B&W Heart Throb print?
Are you a fan of Crimson Maple and burgundy? How do you wear it?
Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!
I don't know how I feel about this new version of the hearthrobe shirt. I think it is probably more versatile than the red one but the red one was more fun. In any case I am glad that I didn't have to decide between the two colors, I wonder which one I would have picked up in the end.
ReplyDeleteI could swear too that the golden burgundy and crimson maple color is the same color. My store had the crimson maple and the heather acorn next to each other and I think that the heather acorn is much thinner, the crimson one seemed very plush.
I am definitively going to wear burgundy thi Fall, I bought a very nice sweater (nice as in meant to last) in Europe and a Zara dress in this color. Now if only I could find a pair of pumps to wear with the dress without breaking the bank...
I think orange and navy is definitely more fun than black and white. I am glad you confirm my thoughts about this year's double serge wool, I am shocked how different they felt and I was wondering if it was just in my head :) are you going to post your European finds?
DeleteI have the red version of the hearthrobe shirt. Love it! I wore it lots and am planning to wear it more in the coming months. The black and white is more versatile and will go with any bottom.
ReplyDeleteI am found of b&w in gereral so I am probably biased here.
DeleteI like the black and white in the Heartthrob. It looks very nice with the Crimson Maple and it will go with so much. I wonder if they will put out a skirt in this color - this shirt and a skirt in same print might look cool together. I am still not a fan of the Crimson Maple, it doesn't make me feel happy for some reason. It really does look nice, I don't know what my problem is really. I just don't like it on me, not this one or any shade of burgundy.
ReplyDeleteFunny beause I would have said the same thing about a month ago. I thought I will never warm up to burgundy and suddenly I did and now I cannot get enough. This is surprising to me and I think it started with a Tippi cardigan. I tried it on just to prove to myself that I don't like it, I put it on, look in the mirror and changed my mind :)
DeleteI prefer the navy and pink version of the heartthrob shirt, but then again, I am not a fan of black and white.
ReplyDeleteI have this skirt in my car to return it. It just looks so flat and I keep wishing it were richer with a tiny bit more red. The fabric and cut are nice, but I the color is a miss for me.
Actually it is thanks to you that I even looked at other colors after big disappointment of heather acorn. I think crimson maple is the best of the bunch, even better than festival blue. But if you don't like the color the fabric quality will not make up for it. I have pretty strong color preferences myself and I have to love it or I would never wear it. After all we have so many choices anyway...
DeleteI like the way the tank appears to match the skirt. That is so versatile. It does look pretty on you. I love the hint of french hens(?) on the ipod case!
ReplyDeleteI like to do it also with pants, I think it gives nice continuity and streamlines the outfit. I love the hen case, it makes me smile.
DeleteI have to keep reminding myself that you are taller and slimmer than I, and just because you look fabulous in something doesn't mean its magic will translate to me! I have those skirts, and funnily enough, even though they do look like different vintages, they both blend beautifully with the CofW sweaters!
ReplyDeleteThank you Fred, I am sure you rock the skirts! What is CofW? I might be a little dim but I cannot figure out what it stands for :(
DeleteI also like the matching tank and skirt: very nice.
ReplyDeleteI like the black and white print. I think it's really versatile and could be worn any season.
Thank you Dani, I live by 'when in doubt, turn to black and white'. Boring, I know, but it works!
