However, couple of months ago I was in J.Crew and, on a whim, I tried on a Tippi cardigan in burgundy. I looked in the mirror and, to my surprise, I loved how it looked on me. Burgundy and I have became friends again!
At first, I was a little puzzled what to wear with it. After playing with the color a little bit, I came up with few favorite ways to wear burgundy:
with black and white |
burgundy 'column' with B&W |
add black shoes |
***
with blue |
plus some black to ground it |
The sneakers are old, but suddenly perfect :) |
This is a twist on red, white and blue...
Navy works the same |
***
With pink |
All tonal |
***
adding green |
To make it seem more purposeful, I like to employ the 'matching necklace' trick. Scarf will work the same way if you don;t like costume jewelry. The necklace does not have to be the same shade, 'close enough' will do, because it is small and separated by other colors. I think it makes all the outfits seem more coordinated.
Never say never...

That's all folks!
What do you wear with burgundy?
Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!
Too funny! I am wearing my burgundy pencil skirt for the first time this morning! I have paired my burgundy with leopard print! Thanks for the great suggestions!
ReplyDeleteOh, leopard must be so pretty with burgundy, have to try it too!
DeleteOuuu all your matchings are lovely! I especially love the floral (is it the liberty print?) print with burgundy. I think I'm going to sit this color out, I prefer navy, browns, greens, and ochres in the fall :)

Yes, this is Liberty perfect shirt in D'Anjo, I love this shirt!
DeleteWell you know how I feel about burgundy, but you may have made a believer out of me with this post, especially with the blue and white pairings :) Burgundy is a great color on you.
ReplyDeletelol cate, nothing like enabling... but seriously, you may be surprised once you try it...
DeleteWow, that is one comprehensive post. I love all of your combos. The baseball striped shirt looks so fresh, and the pink Tippi looks lovely. Burgundy is a hard color for me to wear, because my skin has olive undertones, but I did give in and buy the fuchsia/burgundy colorblock Tippi ($19.00 after the discounts) which is very "not me" but I am enjoying it. Great job!
ReplyDeletethank you! I think sometimes it pays to try something out of your usual picks. $19? A steal!
DeleteLovely outfits you have there, I like the pairing with the blue shirt best. I do like burgundy quite a bit and have been wearing it for a couple of years noow in a sweater and a blouse. I like it with blue and pink tones as you have shown here and especially with my bronzed ochre pencil skirt, the colors really look great together. I bought the wool pencil recently and plan to wear it with similar colors including an ochre jacket. It's flattering to my pale complexion and feels more serious than some of the purples, pinks and blues that I often prefer.
ReplyDeleteThank you xoxo! I like the blue pairing too. There was a blogger (outside of JCA community) that had another burgundy skirt with pinstriped light blue shirt and I fell in love with it. I have to try ochre, I have that skirt and love it, but it did not occur to me to try it with burgundy.
DeleteI've never worn burgundy but it looks great on you. Your legs go on forever in the cords.
ReplyDeleteYou have to give it a try Marsha! Thanks for the compliment, it is the higher-that-usual high heels I am wearing.
DeleteI sent you a Gmail .
DeleteFunny, I was (painfully) putting together a post about burgundy too. I LOVE burgundy, it is very flattering color and I am happy it is back. I collected quite a few burgundy things as of late but my burgundy lineup is a bit more rock and roll than yours ;-). I love the pairing with the pink Liberty shirt the best, even if it is a bit too sweet for me.
ReplyDeleteBurgundy is my most flattering color, yet I'm always stumped with what to wear it with. I don't like it with gray or black. It looks nice with camel, but a little boring. Navy works, but solids look a little uniformy. I think your idea of stripes and patterns is spot on and all of them look great. Now if JCrew can just start making skirts and pants that actually fit me I would so buy that skirt!
