Bouclé peplum jacket in black

I have previously tried on Bouclé peplum jacket in  Indigo and Navy but although I liked the shape of the jacket, I did not think the colors would work for me. I almost forgot about them and did not even notice that it also came in black, until last week, when somebody mentioned it on JCA.

Surprisingly, this jacket never went on significant sale, unlike many other recent J.Crew offering.

Currently sold out

This actually surprised me because I don't know what you think, but to me the website 'styling' looks sloppy and unflattering.  Apparently, I must be wrong since it seems to be selling well. Shows how little I know...

The black is very versatile and would work with any solid color but I like to keep it super simple with all black.

The shape is great with a pencil skirt but would also work with pants, skinny jeans and heels or solid color capris. It can read quite elegant but I could see it dressed down with a tissue tneck and a pair of lighter wash boyfriend jeans.

It works zipped up and open, especially with a shift dress. I took bigger of my sizes (medium). The jacket is unlined but I like it this way since it feels more like a sweater and it is easier to wear casually.

Overall, I really like the jacket. My only concern (but it may be a deal breaker) is that it may get fuzzy and pill and it will snag easily because of boucle weave.

I am also wearing  double serge wool pencil skirt, perfect fit t-shirt and Noelle booties.

  2. I got the black recently, too. I really like how you've styled it and appreciate your suggestions. I've been wanting to get in on the peplum trend. I think this jacket is practically perfect.

    1. I think the shape and color of this jacket are perfect. Did you notice any pillings or snags on yours?

    2. No pills or snags, but I haven't worn it very much. How about yours?
I'm also wondering if I can hand wash it. What are your thoughts? I know it says dry clean only, but the fabric content looks like something I could hand wash in cold.

  3. I think the jacket looks absolutely lovely on you, ajc! Like you, I also prefer the black version over the other two colors. I like how you've paired the jacket with the skirt, and think it would be equally nice on you styled with a pair of jeans and t-neck, like you mentioned in your post. I understand your dilemma over the pilling issue. I have a cardigan that I purchased two years ago from J.Crew because I loved it, but rarely wore it last year due to the pilling factor. Luckily, I didn't pay a huge amount for it, but it is still frustrating, nonetheless. Did you notice if any of them in the store were pilling due to being shop worn?

    1. THank you FMM. Unfortunately, the jacket did look shopworn and this is what makes me concerned. As much as I like the fit, I am leaning toward returning because I am afraid it will looked ragged after few wears.
      Sigh.
