Stovepipe trousers in check are one of my recent, too-good-to-pass purchases from J.Crew. I have liked them when I first tried them on, but they were way to expensive ($158!). Then I almost ordered them when they went on sale, but I hesitated and they sold out in my size. I told myself that although I liked them (and they are fully lined!) I certainly don't need them Yet, when I saw them in store and the price came down to $34 I bought them. They were not even final sale, but I never considered returning them, which is rare for me.
I was wondering if they are versatile enough, but once I brought them home I realized that they go with so many things in my closet. I tried them with three cashmere sweaters but I can envision many other combinations.
- Tonal
This was a tonal combination with cashmere popover in heather agate. I love this sweater and I find the neckline very flattering and cozy looking.
I think I overdid it with matching lipstick and it would have been better with something more red or more pink.
- Neutral
This is a more preppy version of this outfit, with navy blazer and light camel v-neck. I added red shoes for some punch, I suppose I got conditioned into thinking that I need it, lol. I think the shoes in eggplant or some deep berry hue would be ideal.
- Complementary
Of course I had to try it with blue, doesn't everything go with blue?
Actually, I liked it the best this way. The colors are even more saturated irl and they bring out the richness in each other. The burgundy tank brings some of those tones in the trousers and makes the cobalt pop.

That's all folks!
Do you own stovepipe checked trousers or similar pants?
Which color combo do you like the best?
Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!
These look great on you. I like it with the blue best, it's unexpected. My second favorite is with the neutrals, and I do like the pop of the red shoes (also trained by the CFS). You got a great price on these!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cate, of course in my world everything goes with blue but I did think the pairing made the colors more vivid.
Deleteoh i'm so jealous! i saw those when i was in nyc and fell in love with them. they are fab. and you got them for $34. i hate you!
ReplyDeletei think they'd look great with a white shirt or a chambray shirt. (what a surprise, right?) anyway what a score! and did i mention i'm jealous!
Sorry Janet ;) This was indeed a great score but will never beat some of your fantastic $1 purchases.
DeleteLooks so good on you. I got the same pair a while ago during one of the very many J. Crew promos. Very glad with my purchase as I tried it on when it first came out but as much as I like it, it's not the full-price. I'm contemplating on getting the solid colors. Do you know if it is lined as well?
ReplyDeleteI think some the prices JC starts with are totally crazy. The solid version is unlined unfortunately :(
DeleteThey look really nice on you. I have a very similar pair from years ago, will have to bust them out this week!
ReplyDeleteI think I know which ones you mean, yes, it is time to dig them out :)
DeleteLove! I got these awhile back and paid much more but am not at all sorry. They go with everything and seem to be holding up well.
ReplyDeleteThey do seem very versatile. I would have paid more with no regrets (but not FP).
DeleteAll three looks are wonderful on you. What a great, versatile pair of pants.
ReplyDeleteThank you Maryeb!
DeleteI like the first outfit the best, it looks very chic. Are those Fluevogs you're wearing?
ReplyDeleteI have the University trousers in a similar pattern but very different cut. Most of the time I prefer solid trousers. Well, really most of the time I prefer skirts.
Yes these are Fluevogs! I love them. Lol about the skirts, me too.
DeleteThese look really great on you but I have to warn the petite ladies that they looked TERRIBLE on me, probably because I tend to put weigth on my thighs and they accentuated that. I like the first look the best, very soft and fallish!
ReplyDeleteCannot imagine anything looking terrible on you Ema, but I think you just don;t go for trousers very often, rather you prefer skinny jeans/cords or capris.
DeleteI have these pants too and agree they are very versatile. I like the first tonal outfit best, probably because that's usually the way I wear mine too. :)
ReplyDeleteSeems like the first outfit is the biggest hit, funny because this was the one I was least sure about. But now that you mention it I think I had some of your styling ideas in the back of my mind.
DeleteBtw, I am so glad to see you posting and commenting ABC, I hope you feeling better these days :)
I always like that blue and it does work well with these trousers; I will have to see if a tall goes on sale. I have the navy flannel ones; I don't mind that they are unlined although I would prefer them to be. The cut is very nice and slimming.
ReplyDeleteLove the popover. I like to tuck a scarf in the neckline in the winter if it gets chilly.
