Transitioning to Fall

This week the temperatures finally went down a little. Actually, in the morning it was a little chilly and the air was crisp. This is my favorite kind of weather and I am enjoying it. Dressing is a bit of a challenge, because it is still very warm during the day. I just picked a little darker and more autumnal colors, and swapped sandals for close toe pumps. It is not yet a weather to wear a sweater, blazer or boots.

Here are a few of my transitional outfits:

I started with the last of my summer whites but with long pants and sleeves.

This could have been a summer outfit, but I felt that with a darker top, shoes and purse it still works well in September. I think next time, to make it ever more fall-ish, I will wear the skirt with olive/brown tone top. This skirt is definitely one of my very favorites at the moment. I love the print, but it is also super comfortable and goes with so many things.

OK, bring on the Fall. I always thought of wearing this skirt with blue and this linen shirt links it with many of my summer outfits. My shoes are deep burgundy and very comfortable low heels (2") from Sofft. They have little black bows attached and I love to wear them in the fall. This necklace I got this year from Banana Republic goes with everything, I have been wearing it to death this summer.

This was my casual Friday outfit. I am still not ready for jeans, but black capris are another perfect transitional piece. I told you I love the necklace, here it goes again. And yes, I could not resist to get another color of the slubby v-neck tee from Anthro, I am obsessed with them.

Do you remember this Deco skirt from couple of years ago? It is also one of my favorites, it goes with any solid top!  And with all the burgundy popping up everywhere this fall, I remembered about this perfect fit v-neck.  I always liked it, but it is suddenly on trend.

Of course, leopard is another obvious transitional piece. I am surprised how much I love this skirt and that it somehow does not wrinkle throughout the day, despite being unlined. Pink shoes are my concession to summer. This slub cotton tee from Loft outlived so many of similar J.Crew tees and it is still going strong. Strangely, there are no holes developing  and the sequins stay securely attached ;)

I think I will continue the transitional theme for the next week.

  1. Love the Gallerista skirt - did you find it to be TTS?

    1. Yes, I bought a 6 to have a little more room in the waist (I wear 4 in pencils) and to have it sit a little lower on hips.

  2. You do transitional outfits very well. That anthro tee has the perfect shape, I can see why you are obsessed with it!
My transitional outfit today is the pleated camel wool skirt from LLBean Signature, which is unlined so I can wear it with bare legs. I cannot stand the feeling of a poly lining on my bare legs. I am wearing it with my loafers and a short sleeve cashmere jumper in gold from Brora. It is maybe my favorite and best Fall outfit so far.
I hope your week is off to a good start!

    1. I love the sound of your outfit, very classy and pretty! When the skirt is unlined you can always add a silk slip, I know you hate poly, it does not bother me as much but I was appalled when the $700 pink boucle coat on Net-a-porter is also listed with poly lining.

  3. I like these! I am starting the transition as well, although I hear it will get warmer tomorrow and Thursday! Darker colours and closed toe shoes are always the sign for me! I will cling to my skinny (very white!) bare legs for as long as possible!!!

    1. I like to keep the legs bare for another two months. Actually today it is hot here again, no fall in sight.

  4. I love the 2nd outfit, and I love the Deco skirt. Those shorter ,fuller skirts are so flattering on you! It was 49 degrees last night- yikes!

    1. Thanks! I much preferred 49 degrees to today's heat, I am totally ready for colder temps.

  6. It's always a challenge to transition, especially here in Canada where the temperature can drop suddenly, or spring back up into the 80's on a whim. I always like animal prints for fall. I've been wearing a lot of skirts with linen sweaters lately, it's just so easy. I'm switching to cotton sweaters now that the weather is cooler but no wool just yet. Maybe pants though. sigh.

    1. But there is a lot of items you can use that seem useless here, those linen sweaters, blazers etc. I keep buying them and never get a chance to wear them, it is always too hot and then too cold. Sunny and 70 degrees would be my ideal weather..

  7. Wow, lovely outfits. I'm sorry I missed that Deco skirt. It's a wonderful print and I have the burgundy tee too. I love the pink shoe with the leopard skirt. I would not have thought of this; now I want a pair of pink shoes!

    1. Thank you maryeb! Deco skirt is one of my favs, nice fabric and print that goes with everything. when it gets colder I wear it with tights and sweaters.
Pink shoes are nice to counteract the sexy aspect of leopard imo.

  10. I love the leopard skirt outfit. Your skirt reminds me that I can wear the strapless gallerista dress as a skirt, with a top over it. You look weather appropriate and great in all your outfits. I like the chambray & burgundy. Will have to remember that one.

    1. I wear pullover sweaters with dresses all the time, it is a good trick. My favorite dress to do it is Terra Paisley (same print as Jules dress, as xoxo pointed out!). I love it with camel or gray pullovers, in fact I think I did it more often than wearing the dress on its own.

    2. Ah, you're a gi-gi-genius! I've been stalking eBay forever for a Gallerista skirt but it may be easier to just go the dress-as-a-skirt route. I've got the Terra Paisley and could do that, too. Thanks for the ideas, ladies!
