Quilted

Excursion quilted vest in herringbone
  • Excursion quilted vest in herringbone
  • I think the outerwear is one of the areas of J.Crew strength. I have a few of their coats and, in general, I have been happy with them. This year I don't need the coat but I like the slim trench coat and the peacoat with the leather trim.

I don't usually wear quilted vests, there is always either too hot or too cold to wear them. Overall, I don;t find myself wearing many of those 'in between' items: blazers, down vests, short sleeved sweaters, wool capri pants, etc.

I tried on the Excursion vest mostly for this blog:

    Size Medium
I grabbed a Medium and I think it would be a correct size for layering. I probably could get away with Small, if I wanted a more fitted look. I was wearing a cashmere waffle sweater underneath and I had plenty of room.

I think this is very nice, as far as quilted vests go. I like the herringbone pattern, color and piping. It is not as bulky as some down vests and I think it makes more sense for the not-so-cold days, chilly morning and bundling up at soccer games.

For me it is a limited wearability item, but if you live in a different climate or you have more on-the-go lifestyle you may want to check it out.

This little quilted jacket is something I could easily wear in the fall.  But I already have something very similar from Athleta, so I think I am set. I still tried in on for the blog.

    Size Small
It looks more fitted on the model than on me and less boxy. On me, I thought it was just 'blah and whatever'. I tried on the smaller of my sizes and I think the boxiness would be even more exaggerated in a Medium. It fits TTS, the Small was roomy in the body but a bit snug in the chest. I think it may be better on somebody more pear shaped.

The weight for perfect for a light, fall jacket. I liked olive green, but I also liked the red they had in store. I did not try it on but I thought the color itself was very pretty and close to true red, with maybe some pink (not orange) undertones.

    That's all folks!

    Do you wear quilted vests?

How do you like J.Crew outerwear this season?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

    1. I am a vest addict. I live in mine. I love your Crimson Maple skirt. You are really gravitating towards the rich red spectrum this fall!

      1. I know, I see so many women around I those vests but they're lost on me, my arms feel cold or I feel hot. Yes, I loving deep reds this season.

    2. I like both of these. I already have a navy Excursion vest from last year though, and I like it a lot, but I don't need another even though this herringbone pattern is very nice. Factory has them this year in solid colors, but I don't know how fabric content compares to retail. It's funny you said that about the in-between clothing, I don't wear those things as much either. I like the Snowcap jacket and bought it in two colors thinking I would keep one, but I returned them both. I think I already have that weight of coat covered and I don't need another. Coats take up a lot of closet space so I try to be choosy (doesn't always work, I'm a coat addict). That said, I'll watch sale and might buy one if the price goes low enough.

      1. I agree, I am trying hard not to add any coats this year, I think I have everything covered but there is always something tempting me.

    3. I need a new winter jacket and have been considering the Snowcap.
Which Athleta jacket did you get? I'm curious to know what you like about it.

      1. My Athleta jacket is from few years ago when they were not yet part of Gap. It is very similar to barbour/field jacket but green and quilted. It is about the same weight as snow cap but softer and less boxy. I like it a lot, i used to buy quite a lot from Athleta and they are still my favorite workout wear.

      2. Thanks for the info. I was disappointed when Athleta was taken over by Gap; worried that it would change their product line. Their quality and style seems to have remained fairly stable. I haven't been impressed by any of their current jacket offerings, though.

    4. That Herringbone Excursion Vest is one of the few things I want from J.Crew's Fall rollout. Last year it rarely got cold enough in GA for my heavy winter coats, and I found myself reaching for the two vests that I currently own a lot more often than ever before. I do wish that it was a true herringbone instead of just a print....

    5. I like the look of the print on the excursion, but not that it's digital. If it didn't have tipping, I might not like it so much. Agree on your sizing suggestions. :)

      1. Digital, is that what it is? I agree, the piping really adds to it. I think this is well done item, even if it is not for me. Actually, the reason I tried it was because of seeing iron you, you got me intrigued, I should link to your review.

    6. Meh, I think that the snowcap quilted jacket looks much better on the model than IRL (not that you are not modelling it well, it's just the jacket itself). I think it looks like Gap or Old Navy. Plus as you said we don't have a season here for those kind of jackets. As for the vest I think it is interesting but I have no use for it (I have the one from a few seasons go with the golden hardware that I rarely wear already).

      1. I was disappointed in the fit, it looks better in the pictures but maybe it is just my body type. It was also quite stiff, which surprised me but that probably affected the drape too.

    7. I like these, especially the vest, since the other is a colour that just would never work for me!

      You look great as usual!

      1. I liked the vest better than a jacket, the jacket is probably prettier in red.

    8. I've never had a vest but I have a lot of J.crew coats . I agree with you for the price and colours they seem to be ahead of the game. I usually wait till the deep sale and then shop. My all time favourite is the pea coat. The vest looks good on you. Perfect for weekend soccer cheering .

    9. Gosh-I just had what seems such an obvious, Aha! moment when you said "in-between" items. I am the same way. These items tend to never be worn or rarely. Mainly, things like wool capris, short-sleeve sweaters--I must refrain from buying. I do live in my puffer vest with sweaters in the Fall and sometimes in the winter if I am just to the car and to the door of the grocery/mall etc. Thanks for the reviews!
