Bulldog sweater, Swiss Dot blouse and more

I wanted to post some more reviews before 25% off STYLE25 promo ends on Sunday, in case any of you are considering taking advantage of it.

The blouse looks really cute in the the picture and it generated a lot of attention. It seems easy to wear, something you can either dress up or dress down and the color looks gorgeous.

Well, the color IS beautiful and pretty true to real life. I did not see the green at first, so I grabbed a navy. Too bad, because this blouse definitely looks more interesting in green.

I tried on my regular size 6 and it was huge. I think it is supposed to fit loose, but I would definitely try sizing down to 4.

Unfortunately, I cannot even show you the full picture, because it would qualify as indecent exposure. The top was completely sheer. There is no way I could use it without a cami.  You can probably easily find a navy tank to wear with a navy one but green would be more difficult. Maybe the green one is different and less sheer but I doubt it.

$128, 80% silk, 19% cotton and 1% other

Personally, I don;t like the idea that you have to buy a cami for a $128 blouse. The fit also did not wow me but I was definitely thrown off by the sheerness of it and the 'yawn' quality of navy version.

This sweater was also spotted by JCAs when J.Crew posted few pictures of upcoming new arrivals on the website. The sweater is not yet online but you can pre-order or call Paramus concept store and order from them.  As you can see when you compare to the picture below, the J.Crew image was photoshopped. IRL,  the colors are less vivid.

Size Small
The sweater runs TTS to big.  I took smaller of my sizes and the fit is good. It fits the same as chicken (aka French Hen) sweater if you had a chance to try it on. For my review see here. There are also numerous reviews by others, check out Gigi's comprehensive post to see more and links to others.

The colors and and design are less cutesy than the chicken but I was not sure what kind of message I am sending to the world by having a bulldog right on my chest.

Cute but itchy

I think the list of ingredients is also the same and the sweater was also itchy. If you are even slightly sensitive you would need to wear a tee under it.

45% viscose, 25% nylon, 22% wool, 7% rabbit hair, 1% cashmere
Rabbit hair on a dog sweater???

Unidentified (yet) lace top.

Size Small
At first, I was intrigued by this top. It also comes in pink blush but I grabbed a navy. It fits TTS to big and my smaller size was a good fit. Comes with a matching color cami which for some reason I found fussy and uncomfortable but maybe I was just cranky.

The lace is nice but overall, I was underwhelmed. Maybe it would have been more interesting in pink. It would definitely benefit from some styling. At least it is made of natural fabrics.

$138, 100% cotton

What do you think?

Do you think bulldogs are better than chicken?
Do you agree that the blouse should come with matching cami?

Did you get anything with STYLE25?
I have ordered a Liberty shirt and a Sterling skirt to try.

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. Too bad about the blouse! I refuse to buy camis for expensive blouses. I just think that is crazy and they ought to build one in.. I personally like the bulldog sweater, except for the material and the itch factor! I mentioned the rabbit hair to my dog Indy and he thought that was very amusing!! I like the navy blouse, but don't have the wow factor for it!

I am still contemplating ordering the hacking jacket in the cream/black today to try it. I love the capris so much and I love the way Gwyneth rocked hers and I could use a lovely heavier wool blazer - i only have one, all the rest are the super 120s or other lighter wool blends. It is just such a pain to return, but if it works could be wonderful...

    1. ITA, the cami should have been built in, better yet, it should have another layer of fabric!
Have you tried the Hacking jacket in person? I found it tight across the chest and I think it would be too long on you...
      lol about Indy :)

    2. Damn! If you are telling me it will tight across the chest, I think I will stick to the tippi in grey I bought earlier this week! I trust you on issues related to the bust!

  2. What a bummer about that top being see through, phew the value of blogs!
And yes rabbit hair in a dog sweater, that could kick off an animal war, best we keep it quiet.

    1. The top was so sheer! But the copy will probably read: "we are wearing it everywhere, job interviews, parent teacher conferences and funerals".

  3. Thanks for the reviews, well I think the lace top is very nice and at least they used cotton for it, imagine!
I'm feeling like I'm going to sneeze just thinking about wearing rabbit hair.

    1. I wonder if the rabbit hair is responsible for the itch factor? Why use it?

  4. thank you for this review - the bulldog sweater one was good for the reason that the IRL colour is so disappointing if i had ordered it, i think i would have been really angry.

i got a few blazers with the style25 promo! the houndstooth and navy schoolboy. can't wait to get them. :)

    1. It may be the lighting in the fitting room but the sweater is definitely not as radiant as in the pictures, I hate all this overexposing and brightening, it is misleading...
Houndstooth and navy schoolboy are classic, you can't go wrong.

  5. Thanks for the reviews. Another swing and a miss J Crew! Even Target lines their blouses. I can not go near rabbit hair-it makes my eyes water. I am glad the lace shirt is cotton, but the arms look slender. Are they? I may have to make my way in the store!

    1. How do they obtain rabbit hair, or maybe I don;t want to know. I have skinny arms so it is usually not a problem for me but I don't think they were too tight.

  6. Woah--that is even sheerer than I imagined! And the bulldog doesn't look remotely like the online shot--so lackluster IRL. These are a tremendous help! Thanks again as always:)

  8. The blouse is incredibly sheer, it definitely would be indecent without a cami. There is something a bit off with the dog image but I can't put my finger on it. Not that I could wear it if you find it itchy, I'd probably need three tees and a scarf underneath. Always so helpful, thanks ajc!

    1. I agree about the dog image ... is it because the face and body are different colors? Or the ears too big or what is it?

    2. xoxo, the sweater was very itchy to me, and both you and Tiffany Rose are right about the dog being off, I thought so too. Come to think of it, the ears look like rabbit's ears, don't they?

    3. I finally figured out it's supposed to be a french bulldog (on the same theme as the french hen). They do have large ears but this one just isn't as cute as pictures of them I've seen. It's OK, I don't need another critter sweater. ;)

  9. Good catch on the rabbit hair dog sweater. I'm with you. I don't care to have a bulldog on my chest.
Yikes about the sheerness of the first top. I was considering it, but not now. Thanks so much!

    1. I was not sure what is the message of bullodog, that I am feisty? Drooling over the J.Crew offerings? No, thanks :)
Yikes is right, especially at $128!

  10. I love the green top. I hope they sell a cami that matches but that price for something that requires effort is not cool.

    Thanks for reviewing.

    1. I agree the green top is very pretty, but it would probably fly of the shelves if it was double layered, I can see how this could be very versatile. Even if they sell matching tank, it is still not the same and silk sometimes clings to cotton...

  11. I don't like the bulldog sweater any better than the french hen sweater... but (hanging my head in shame, you will see why) I bought a gray short-sleeved t-shirt from the J. Crew Factory store recently with a black bulldog screened onto the front of it lol. It is much worse than this bulldog, because that bulldog has its tongue hanging out in a most unfortunate place. I still can't believe I bought it lol!! It's not online or I would link to it. It's so bad it's almost good :)

But I draw my line in the sand at see-through shirts. I'm so glad you posted the review of the sheer blouse. I was really drawn to the green one too but I don't like sheer on me even with a cami underneath. I am interested in the 100% cotton (yay!) lace top, it looks nice.

I can't believe it but I haven't ordered anything from this full-price promotion. I have some odds and ends sitting in my cart, such as the stovepipe trousers, but I think I'll probably pass on them. I really want to try on about 12 pairs of full-length trousers (including the different sizes & fabrics) and my stores don't carry them, and I'm not shelling out 12 X $100+ just to see if I like some pants. I don't understand why the stores carry a gazillion pairs of Cafe Capris but no full length trousers. Baffling.

    1. cate, you are funny! I am giggling here picturing "tongue hanging out in a most unfortunate place".
you are right that the sheer shirts don;t look that great with a cami, they hang differently and don;t flow, not mentioning the trouble of matching and additional cost.
Good for you not ordering anything if there is nothing you truly like. And I am also puzzled by the lack of full length pants offerings, this is the only kind I wear from October to April!

  12. I keep thinking I've been leaving comments but looks like I have not, it's been just in my head ...

Thanks for all your IRL previews, they are helping me get over my shopping habit. There was a time when you did not have to check JC ingredients but I need to get it in my head those days are long gone. I'm happy to see a few 100% or mostly natural fiber things but needing to wear a cami makes it too fussy and impractical for my too-hurried life.

    1. I am right there with you! I think a lot of JC clientele look for natural fabrics. That was the main reason, along with color and fit, that drew me to them, and one it is gone the crewlade is wearing off. I used to buy couple times a week, now it is only couple times a month and I am working towards few times a year. Hopefully.

  13. I can't believe they didn't include a cami. That's a deal breaker for me. The sweater reminds me of something I put my children in during grade school.
    Thanks for the reviews.

  14. Well the bulldog is the mascot of Comptoir des Cotonniers, it's a blatant copy and the original is better. I do love the green blouse and I still can't believe that it is that sheer and doesn't come with a cami. Wondering what the model is wearing under it... I did order stuff for my husband and my daughter and threw in a little thing from factory for me to try. I did buy the Liberty shirt in indian red in store but I am not 100% sure about it, maybe you got the same?
