Wool Belted Coat

From website description:

Belted button-front coat made from premium Loro Piana® wool fabric, woven in Italy. Pockets. Belts along waist and sleeve cuffs. Fully lined. 40" center back length. Dry clean only. Imported.

Size 6
This is a pricey coat but it does feel luxurious on. The color is great, true camel but not too yellow. The fabric is 'naturally waterproof' the SA told me. I am not sure if it is something special or is it just wool is naturally water resistant.

The fit is generous and when I tried on smaller of my coat sizes I still had enough room for layering. I like that it is single breasted and that it buttons all the way up. I liked the finishing details like pockets and buttons. I was not crazy about the neckline. In camel color I think it needs a scarf to brighten it up, or at least a turtleneck, like the model is wearing.

It is longer on  me that it is on the model, which is fine since I understand models are tall and prefer that to items being shorter on me than on models like it happens many times at J.Crew.

The fabric is substantial and it seems warm. It it not the lightest coat but that is also what I would expect.
The belt is longer than it looks in the pictures, I think the rest of it is in my pocket, you can definitely tie it but it also have prongs to cinch it.

It is an expensive and I don't own anything at similar price to compare the quality but it seems very well made. Even with the 25% off Friends and Family discount,  it is still be too much for me.

Lambswool Button-Front Plaid Skirt

I love this skirt. The pattern, the lambswool fabric, the berber lining, buttons, pockets, shape and did I say plaid?. Everything but the price :(  Unfortunately, it is a deal breaker, but come sale time, I will definitely keep this skirt in mind.
Size4
It fits TTS and very similar to J.Crew sizing. I am wearing my regular J.Crew size and the fit is perfect.

The mirror was awful, sorry
It says a-line, but the flare is minimal.

Fabric matched on the sides and in the back
The pattern is matched, both on sides and in the back, yes! In addition to buttons there are two little snaps to keep the waistband in place, very nice!

I like how they styled it on the website with the lavender sweater. There is some blue in the pattern and I imagine it would be very pretty with light blue top.

That's all folks!

What do you think of Brooks Brothers offerings?
Do you think they are worth the price?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. Loro Piana cashmere and wool is just so sumptuous, the skirt reminds me of one of J Crew's from last year. Isn't it great to see a pattern match? Something that used to be standard is now a novelty to us.

    1. I know, it is so rare now to find nice details like pattern matching, it is sad.

  2. I love both of these! Was the coat lining nice?

    1. To tell you the truth I don;t remember, I wasn't really considering the coat because it is out of my price range but usually BB items have very nice bemberg lining and I am pretty sure this coat does too.

  3. That looks like a nice coat but it looks too big on you, especially in the shoulders. Could you size down? I like the skirt a lot too. I don't know if Brooks Brothers is worth the price. I've never bought from them. Full price is too steep for sure and I wouldn't pay it. I'd only pay sale if I thought I'd get a lot of wear out of the piece.

    1. I don't think I could have sized down and still be able to layer and button the coat. I think it is cut for wider shoulders and I have pretty narrow ones and often run into this issue.

  4. Just one comment. Find a way to buy that skirt. Your legs are enhanced, the plaid matches, it is timeless and it can be worn with everything. It is simply stunning on you. Buy beautiful quality and let the rest go.

  5. That skirt is amazing, I'm with yippee.
Brooks Brothers sure is nice stuff. Sometimes I look through the website which makes me want to try everything on.
I do have a black wool dress with full silk lining from BB that I bought on massive sale. It is beautiful. And a black cashmere turtleneck that my older daughter has taken from me!

    1. I only have few items from BB but they are all great quality. The SAs are also so nice, they help you put a coat on and all that.

  6. That skirt is better than anything you'd find elsewhere for the same money. Absolutely perfect. The coat looks yummy too. I hope you can catch a sale :-)

    1. You are probably right Julie, the skirt is not that much more expensive than some JC ones, especially with 25% off I could've used.

  7. Remember how you were looking for something but couldn't find it . Guess what my dear you have hit the jackpot . The coat is gorgeous and it will probably go on sale . The skirt is perfect and instead of another pencil purchase this. This is my favourite of the season on you. Well done!

  8. Thank you for these reviews. Nice picks, they look great on you, especially the skirt. I love the attention to detail like the pattern matching, which they always master perfectly, and how they did the belt loops so they are not noticeable but the function is there if you want it. I think the skirt will go on sale, usually by December things are reduced by 50% and then January the clearance starts with up to 70% off.

I find the quality is worth the price at Brooks Brothers. The fit and feel of the garments are wonderful and that is important to me as I do not want to fuss over what I'm wearing. I'm one who would rather have fewer pieces of better quality because I do keep my clothes for years and wear mostly classic pieces so don't have as much turnover as those who like to stay on trend.

    1. xoxo, of course I was thinking about you when I was trying the items on. I would not have been sure about quality if not for your discerning reviews. I hope you are right about the skirt and I can catch it on sale some December.

  9. Just one more thing about the skirt. Since it is button down, does it pass the sit test?

    1. Hmmm, good question. I did not think to test that. I will try it next time I am in store.

  10. I agree that you should get the skirt, it looks amazing on you. I have a Brooks Brothers literally a block away from my place but I never stepped inside, too classic for me. However, I spied a herringbone coat (or is it a cape) recently that sparkled my interest.

    1. Most of their offerings are too classic for me too but I have a dress and a skirt I got there that I really like and the quality is great.
