Bedazzled

I love a white shirt, but give me anything bedazzled and it's just crazy.

Apparently, this statement can apply to sweaters:

Or blazers:

Or skirts:

I think my 9yo would totally agree with Gayle.

As for myself, I'd say 'just give me a plain white shirt'. I am boring like that. I do love Gayle's exuberance. I would jump on opportunity to chat with her over cup of coffee (does she bedazzle hers with soy hazelnut vanilla cinnamon and caramel extract?). I am not sure if I want her style advice, cute and spunky as she is.

Well, I never thought I would say that, but I'd rather go for Gwyneth styling. Oh well...

I did try some of the bedazzled items last week:

Jeweled sweatshirt

Size small

There was no Medium to try and the Small was snag and short. I definitely would prefer a larger size.

Bedazzling works quite well here but I still would not budge. I already own Jaspe sequinned sweatshirt from couple of seasons ago. I don't think I wore it even once last year and I think this one will have the same, bottom-of-the-drawer-future with me.

Glad  of the placement of little bows if ykwim ;)

This top is not yet online and I think it has more potential, at least in theory. For one, it is not a sweatshirt, it ia a dressy-occasion-blouse, so bedazzling seems more appropriate.

Size 6
The cut is nice and it fits TTS, slightly boxy and similar to silk crepe shirt, if you have it.  Navy is pretty and works very well with the silver tone crystals.

The body is 100% wool with poly lining. I quite liked it and may have considered it until I saw the price.

$158, 100% wool
I decided bedazzling is not for me, after all. But if you like the top, I think pricing it so high actually increases the chances of eventually getting this top at good sale price. That is, if you still remember about it; often by the time an overpriced item makes it to sale, I am no longer interested.

That's all folks!

Do you bedazzle?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. The bedazzled sweatshirt (notably on the shoulders) was a major trend that I noticed in Europe, almost every "cool" brand has at least one in the Fall collection. I am actually surprised to see so few at JCrew this year (basically the one that you tried on which I find a very boring version of the trend). In any case I think it can be fun on a sweatshirt but not on investment pieces or a classic jacket like that schoolboy that you want to wear more than one season. Bah!
And their pricing strategy really boogles my mind, I totally afree with you.

    1. When jcrew first started doing sequins on sweatshirts I thought it was cool and bought the Jaspe one. However after some time I realized they dont really work that well for my lifestyle. Most of the time if I want to wear a sweatshirt I want to keep it casual and when I wear sequins I don't want to wear a sweatshirt. I know Jenna is big on floor length sequins with a denim jacket but there was never an occasion in my life when that would be my best choice. And I think it would be exactly the same with all the bedazzling.

  2. This post had me laughing and you have such a good sense of humour. The sweatshirt reminds me of when my daughter was 8 and she was really into sparkles and glitter. We had sparkles on our hardwood floors from the glitter pens. She outgrew it so why can't Gayle put down the gun. I don't understand what's up with the pricing because it seems to come out and like a revolving door it on sale in record time. For example the herringbone pencil and capris . Was this always the case?

    1. I cannot help but feel that most of the bedazzling seems just very juvenile and cheap to me. Even if it is anything but cheap, lol.

  3. Too funny! The bedazzling is not my favourite at all - I like sequins, but not a fan of this at all. What I prefer is plain and then jewel it up myself. I miss Marissa....

  4. Oh cripes the bedazzling! I was at this big craft store today with my daughter to buy some things for a project she's doing, it's called Michael's Crafts I think, a big store, they're probably everywhere. Anyway what a nightmare! I couldn't help thinking that Gayle shops there! I hope I never have to go back.
And overpricing, we were buying materials to make a "Chess Champion" trophy: $49.97. It will be a Collection item!

  5. Okay but in saying that i just went and looked at that last top you tried and it is very pretty. You could wear it with jeans and it would be stunning with a navy skirt. Who's bedazzled now I guess.
Thanks for the fun post. :)

    1. I agree that this top is very pretty, it is just that the cpw would be very high for me, but who knows if it goes on sale...

  6. Thanks for the giggle. The last top is the one I'm currently contemplating. The online price matches the price tag-it was originally quoted closer to $200. Still on the fence ;-)

  7. Great post. I do like the last shirt- navy again! But, I am not a fan of wool blouses. I love them in theory, but in practice they seem warm for a night time occasion, which is the only time I would wear that blouse. It looks like a nice fit on you.

    1. I think you are right, I did not quite articulated it in my mind but now that you said it I think you raise a very good point as for the wearability. Thanks!

  8. No not really, I'd rather have a a plain grey sweatshirt, or a plain white shirt but wear it with bright red lipstick if I wanted to be eye catching.

    1. That's what I usually opt for. I don't try to take fashion too seriously but cannot help feeling that all this bedazzling is silly and cheap and dating.

  9. Put the bedazzler down, JC. This is why god made jewelry.

  10. Not a fan of the 2nd top. I like the jeweled sweatshirt. I guess I need some sparkle in my life. :)
