Camels and Elephants Remixed

My 'color story' for this week could be called 'Safari'. I love all the sandy shades of cream/ivory/beige mixed with brown and black. And I still did not get bored with my Elephant necklace!

Anthro skirt with J.Crew cami  (both older pieces)
This outfit got the most compliments. It was a gift from my husband, from couple of years ago. I am proud of his good taste. I don't like wearing a strapless bra but there is no way around it with this top and I make an exception.  I did bring a cardi to cover up but it it was hot that day and my office is casual.
J.Crew perfect tee and No2 pencil skirt
I never thought I would wear animal prints until last year, but I do like this skirt. I usually tone it down with simple t-shirt and soften it up with pink shoes. Miraculously, this skirt does not wrinkle, even if it is all unlined cotton. I usually don't like unlined skirts but this one holds its shape and feels cool.
J.Crew cami and linen trousers (older)
This Grand Ruffle cami was one of my favorite purchases from J.Crew despite having big ass ruffle, mixed fabrics and unfinished edges. I wore it a lot, machine washed it on regular cycle and it held its shape and did not unravel. It is also not a see through, rarity at J.Crew and I love the color.
J.Crew Jenny dress with Jack Rogers sandals
I wore this Jenny dress on my work from home day, it is super comfy. I think I paid under $20 for it last year. It has a big exposed zipper in the back and it came in numerical sizes (I am wearing a 4). It even has bra strap snaps! I like that it is finished in the woven fabric, it dresses it up a bit. Still there is something off about the fit, so I like it but do not love it.

Ann Taylor Shift with old sandals
You have seen the review of this Ann Taylor dress HERE. This was my husband's favorite from this bunch. I love this dress and it does not need any styling imo. I just wanted to wear a black strappy sandals with it. It did wrinkle but not horribly; this picture is from the afternoon. This is the only piece in this post that was purchased this year.
J.Crew perfect fit tee with Hutton pants
This is one of my basics outfits, so I like to add a little punch with my red Repettos.

J.Crew Rowboat dress
The Rowboat dress did not get much love in the blogosphere but I love it. I am wearing a size Small. I reach for it a lot, when I want to look casual but still polished.

That's all folks!

Do you like 'safari' theme for summer?
Do you own any of the pieces? How do you wear them?

Which look is your favorite, if any?

    1. Hi Tabitha,
I bought the necklace with Dani on a whim and at first I thought that I will return it because it is too whimsical and more of something you would keep on a shelf than a piece of jewelry but it grew on me and now I cannot get enough. I think sometimes it pays to venture out of your usual rut :)

  3. What a great idea to wear the rosy pink shoes with animal print, who would have thought? Well, besides you. ;^) That is one big @$$ ruffle but a few years ago it was probably considered medium-sized. I do like that Ann Taylor dress on you, it looks so fresh yet professional with the contrast accents. Great lineup for the first full week of summer.

    1. I tried a lot of shoes with this skirt and this was a winner. I would usually wear it pink shoes and black/brown/beige top or with black/brown shoes and pink top.

  4. I really love the elephant necklace as well and think your husband has exquisite taste! It has done nothing but rain here - I am budy building the ark and expect to see Tabitha soon once I row across the Atlantic...

I think your outfits are great and very chic! I often shy away from the pales because I am so pale myself, but your are inspiring me...

The rainy weather makes me shy away from colour....I do not know why - i am currently channeling my inner angst-filled teeen - am ready for some sun!

    1. Oh WMM, this is horrible weather, hopefully it will clear up soon and the sun will shine.
I will pass the compliment to my hubby, thanks!

  5. The elephant necklace is a real star, I've worn mine a couple of times too, big departure for me from my pearls. ;)
The leopard pencil with the pink shoes is so perfect and I also love the first outfit, gorgeous skirt, your husband shops very well.
I like the linen trousers with the big a@# ruffle too! Actually a stellar line-up for the whole week!

    1. Thank you Dani, I don;t think I would have picked up that Elephant necklace if it wasn't for you but I am really happy with it!

  6. Yep, I love the elephant also, one of the few JC items I have ever ordered full price right when it came out. AJC, you look really really good in separates. Not that you don't look great in the dresses, but somehow, separates really flatter your figure and your little waist (lucky you!)...

I read and reread this entry and was thinking, HOW AM I NOT SEEING THE CAMELS??? Then I thought, maybe she thinks the pendant (the giraffe one, is it?) is a camel??? And then, FINALLY, I got it. Oh, SANDY SHADES... camel....

(Before you think I'm too daft, I had just gotten a katespade.com email last week about how her new animal is the camel:

  7. Great outfits! I love the pink shoes with the animal print skirt too. I thought that skirt would wrinkle horribly so am having second thoughts about it now ...

  8. Loving the animal print outfit. And I heart the grand ruffle shell. It did well during my pregnant last year. I agree the AT dress isn't too bad. I could live with that wrinklage.

  9. I love the animal print outfit too!
You really make me want the elephant neclace too and it is backordered now:(.
Do you find the rowboat dress short too?

    1. I don't think the Rowboat is too short for this type of summer dress and kind of mod shape. I am wearing a Small though and I think the XS was much shorter.
