Styling Blythe

I have previously tried the Blythe blouse in polka dots (see review here) and I liked it a lot. But since I already own a few polka dot silk blouses, I had hard time justifying the price. Then, due to J.Crew pricing whoopsie, I was able to snatch it for $22 before any shopathome/jcrew cc rebates. At this price, I was comfortable with adding it to my closet. I know that you should not buy anything just because of the price, but I feel like this was OK, since I loved the blouse from the beginning. What do you think? Did you get it?

Anyway,  I was excited to receive it on Monday and I wore it immediately on the next day. I take it as a good sign. I think it is very versatile and it looks good with about anything, trousers, jeans and skirts.

I wanted to try it with all neutral outfit. I am tired of the constant pop-of-color on everybody (myself included). But when I paired it first with gray and then with black shoes I decided it was just too boring (or too corporate), so I swapped them for pink Valentinas. This would look better if my hair cooperated for the picture, but it was a windy day.

I wore my stretch denim jacket (review here) for my commute because it is now chilly in the mornings. With the jacket the shirt looks much better untucked. I also swapped the shoes later for a pair of silver Sperrys. The necklace I am wearing was the first statement necklace I bought. I liked how the size of the beads echoes the polka dots and the color if the ribbon happens to be a perfect match.

My trousers are J.Crew 1035 superfine cotton. I love them and I also have them in navy and beechwood (see review here).

I think the blouse works well in all neutral outfit but I also wanted to try it with my yellow cords.

These are GAP sexy boyfriend cords (review here). I really liked them with Blythe and it was also a super comfortable outfit. I am also wearing a J.Crew necklace and little Gabby purse, that you cannot really see (other than strap), but it is exactly the color of the cords. I thought it was better than black. I stole the belt from my husband's closet, shhhh, don't tell.

Overall, I am thrilled with my purchase and I think I will wear it a lot. I can see it with almost any color bottom and I love that it looks fine untucked. I got a size 6, which is my regular size and it is quite roomy but not too big. I am wearing a perfect fit tank in white underneath. I don't mind wearing a tank under a long sleeve shirt but I think you could wear it without a tank with a nude bra.

That's all folks!
Did you get the polka dot Blythe? How do you wear it?

  1. I love it on you! No I don't have any of these blouses. I'm down to one silk blouse, the luxe crepe in that nude color.
I think the way you've styled it is brilliant. Especially with the yellow.

    1. Thank you Dani, I almost bought the silk crepe blouse today but I restrained myself. It is so pretty but I don't need it and it is still quite expensive.

  2. Both pairings are lovely. Those yellow cords were a great purchase for you! I don't have the polka dot Blythe, but I do have an ivory silk JC blouse from last year. It is unworn because I need to buy better undergarments. I find the blouses to be somewhat sheer. Your necklace is a perfect match!

    1. Thanks Knityarns, it is true that those silk blouses are sheer, especially in lighter colors. I am more comfortable with regular cotton perfect fit tank than the silk cami. In fact I often think the colors look better with something uderneath, especially white can make the colors brighter.

  3. Look at your legs, WMM, will be auditioning you for her dance troupe.
What a price you go it for, but in these pics it's those cords and the shoes which make my heart flutter.

    1. Lol, be careful what you ask for, I am a horrible dancer (and even worse singer)!

  4. I love that blouse and how you styled it. I would have bought it for that price too, what a deal! I do like the pops of color with it (sorry! lol)... the denim jacket and the pink Valentinas make the neutral outfit more interesting.

    1. I find it very hard not to do a "pop of color", it becomes a habit, lol.

  5. You look awesome in both outfits! Very sharp :) I don't own any Blythe blouses - I never like the way the gathers look on my broad shoulders. I wish J.Crew would do more printed silk Boy Shirts since they fit me so well. I tried those yellow cords on at Gap in August and loved them, but didn't buy them because I barely wore the cords I already own last winter. After buying (and returning) the J.Crew Midrise Toothpick cords yesterday, I think maybe I will just stick with jeans for the time being.

    1. I saw your comment about the cords, too bad they would not work but at least they were not final sale
I did not like other versions of Blythe, but for some reason the polka dot one works.

  6. I love the blouse on you! And I loved the way you styled it. I'm so mad at myself for not jumping on this. I had it in my basket and I hesitated too long.

    1. WMM, there is plenty in stores so if you decide it is still not bad price with 30% off and if you have the 20% you can stack it . But like i said to MS, there will be plenty more and the prices should only get better before the holidays.

    1. When I went to try the boyfriends they were also mostly sold out, the SA did a store search for me and she found one pair that was online return with no tags(at least they warned me). I guess they are selling well.

  10. I love the blouse on you, ajc! What a fantastic price for it, too.

I was online at the time of the pricing mix-up, but didn't order the blouse. I have several silk blouses that don't get worn enough as it is, so I couldn't justify another one.

    1. FFM you are so good about sticking to the plan, I still have to learn from you... But I am glad that I got this blouse :)

  11. I love the first look and the unexpected pop of color of the Valentinas. I am a bit over the bright bottoms myself but you look great in the mustardy boyfriend (plus mustard is not exactly bright).

    1. I think this is as bright as I would go, I consider mustard quite neutral although these cordsae somewhere between warm yellow and mustard.

  12. It really does look great with anything! As I don't have a job I don't wear the many silk blouses i already but this one is really tempting. Just saw something similar paired with a pair of midnight blue sequined trousers, looked fab. I am loving those goldy tour on you, what a great colour

    1. I think this blouse is easier to wear than some other silk ones, probably because polka dots lighten it up and the cut has an ease of boy shirt.

  13. I love how you paired the coral Valentinas with the greys! You've inspired me to try that. :) I too was lucky to get the Blythe for that amazing price. I had it in my shopping cart for a while but didn't think it was worth full price. I couldn't believe the great price we lucked out on. I am also planning on wearing it with my yellow JC cords from last year.

    1. I felt the same way, the price definitely helped, I definitely would not get it at full price but I think it is worth the sale price minus 30%.

  14. I totally regret missing out on this top on sale, especially for that steal! I think it is a fun top and would go with a ton of bottoms!

  15. Oh Lisa, I wish you could have purchased it because I would love to see it on you!!

  16. Loved the pairing with the grey pants - I would have done that same thing. Since it went on sale I was very tempted to get it but my size was already long gone :( I think it would look cute with light pinks also (pants, sweaters, or cardigans). Great basic blouse!
