I used to never wear pink. Then, somewhere in my late thirties, I thought: why not? Same thing happened with florals, polka dots, multicolored shoes and leopard. Somehow, I got tired of the tomboy style I sported in my twenties and early thirties and decided to embrace my feminine side more. This had some side effects, like overdosing on ruffles and liberty print romantic dresses and other frilliness. I hope that by now I figured what works for me. I can wear girly but I need to offset it somehow, or it does not feel like me. I think I still have a bit of that grungy, rebellious teenager in me and I am kind of fond of her.
I think the best way I like pink, is when it is paired with black:

I felt as Audrey-esque, as I can ever get in this outfit. I am wearing Tippi merino sweater and cafe capris with Nora cap toe ballets and pink necklace, all from (surprise!) J.Crew.

This outfit was inspired by DaniBP, who posted (long time ago) about pale pink and black combination.
I came to work wearing my black Valentinas, but I later decided to swap them for Talbots pink bow slingbacks that I brought with me just in case. Is that crazy? I often have an extra pair of shoes with me and few pairs left in the office.

All J.Crew again! |
This is Liberty perfect shirt from I think 2010. I actually paid full price for it, I liked it so much. It is a very sweet print, so to counteract it, I wore it with my distressed matchstick jeans and black accessories. This was on Friday when I worked over 15 hours, so I wanted to be comfortable. My office is very laid back style-wise on Fridays, and this was not (by far) the most casual.

The combination below makes me think of WMM. She was wearing pink and gray the other day and I commented that we are sartorial twins. I love pink and gray too!The cashmere sweater is from 360 Sweater (review here), cords are J.Crew matchsticks, blouse is Banana Republic (old) and shoes are from Merona. My bracelet is from Arden B.

Now, this outfit is one of my favorites to wear in the fall. Boots and dress are from Boden (old), cardigan is from GAP and my purse is Kate Spade. I manged to pull off a J.Crew-free outfit!
It may not be obvious at a first glance that this belongs to the pink series. But it does, look at the boots:
These boots make me happy. They are made of soft suede with leather lining and have super small (1.5") kitten heels. They are not as bright as in the picture, more of a dusty pink. They came from the previous round of pointy boots era. They were retired for a few years were only round or almond toes would do, but they are back in full force!

That's all folks!
Do you wear pink and other girly stuff?
Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!
Beautiful! I love the Nora shoes, and the shirt with the distressed jeans and pumps looks so chic!
ReplyDeleteThank you KnitYarns! Did you get the Noras?
DeleteNot yet- still mulling them over.. Although seeing them on you is def making me think about them !
DeleteLove the distressed denim with the floral blouse!!!
ReplyDeleteI dont wear a lot of pink, but i love seeing it on others.
Thanks Ina, you have to give it a try, I think pink will be great on you!
DeleteI love all shades of pink and wear them often, usually with denim. All pink looks good with my pale/ruddy skin tone. I usually pair pink with denim, but I like what you've done with the black. I've always been afraid I'd look too Pink Ladies (Grease), but you have totally avoided that pitfall :-)
ReplyDeleteI like your pairing of sweet pink + distressed denim + black (where did you get the black necklace? love it!). The black capri + tippi + Nora cap toe looks terrific too. I also love the pink blazer + skirt + black outfit. Isn't it fun when you find things in your closet that go together perfectly?
Thanks for the post, they always give me good ideas.
Denim and black are the best to toughen up anything too sweet, aren't they? You are right, it is always a joy to find something in your closet that I did not think of before, but suddenly it is perfect.
DeleteThose boots are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI am very fond of them, thanks A!
DeleteLoving the "Audrey" with the touches of pink!
ReplyDeleteHi Fred, it is not easy to pull Audrey when you are several sizes north from 0 but this is my best shot, haha.
DeleteLove the Liberty blouse with the jeans,
ReplyDeleteare pointy boots back? I have 2 pairs should I bring them out of retirement
I guess they are back for me, pointy heels and flats encourage me at least...
DeleteThose pink boots are so cool. I never stopped wearing pointy toes because I think they are the most feminine but I am still wearing every other shape too. Pink and black is classic and you put it together well. I prefer pink and gray myself, it's one of my go-to combos year-round.
ReplyDeleteFunny, I have the rosebud tweed pencil but to me it is not pink, it's orange.
I love pink and gray but tend to go with brighter pinks then. I guess the skirt is somewhere in between orange and pink (blush?) but pink sounds better to me ;)
DeletePlease box up the 'Audrey' and send it over, it's the perfect outfit, I too love pale pink with black.
ReplyDeleteTabs, I bet you already have something similar in your closet, black sweater and skinny black pants, don;t you? And if I remember right, you bought the Cabochon necklace in pink didn't you? That would be perfect over black...
Deleteloving all the pinks! love love love! you look super adorable in all of these outfits.

Thank you Phiphi, you are sweet!
DeleteI love wearing pink and never thought to pair it with black. I love the look! I usually pair pink with gray, navy or khaki. Thanks for the new option.
ReplyDeleteBlack and pale pink are meant to be together, I git inspired by my daughter ballet outfits (and Dani).
DeleteOh, I love all of these! pink boots! The Audrey outfit is perfection!
ReplyDeleteI have had one of those weeks. Almost everything I wore this week made me feel chubby and cranky! wonder why we get like that sometimes?????
I want distressed jeans!
FYI - I bought the no 2 in the berry pink, with the "touch of milk" - I thought I could work with it for $60!!! I will let you know and I may have to return it as well!
The Audrey outfit was done thinking of you, I think you mentioned you'd like to see it when I reviewed the shoes...
DeleteOh, you have to show us the outfit with the berry skirt, what a steal, I was tempted myself but I resisted.
p.s. I also love pink with chocolate brown!
ReplyDeleteMe too! Oh, I just had an idea for an outfit...
DeleteI love all of your combinations especially the distressed jeans with the Liberty shirt, pink suits you well. I prefer dusty shades of pink for myself or the very bright ones but I admire it on others. Love the pointy boots!
ReplyDeleteEma, I look awful in dusty pink, it makes me look sick but Is very refined on others, I bet it looks great on you!
DeleteThanks for the mention ajc. Guess what I have that skirt, but I also cannot remember the name. It is a perfect pale pink, it has survived my many wardrobe purges! Oh I see xoxo has it too and it is the rosebud tweed pencil. I think it is a Collection piece, very well done.
ReplyDeleteI saw quite a bit of pink in Paris, especially with brown and with gray.
I don't remember that Liberty shirt but I love it, it's so pretty.
Okay I need to catch up on your posts and see what you've been up to!
So glad to see you back, I missed you!
DeleteA lot of pink in Paris? I feel instantly more sophisticated, thank you! That short sold out pretty quickly, it was $118 full price, not $150. I don;t wear it enough because many other combinations make it looking too sweet for my taste, hence distressed jeans to the rescue ;)
