Same Old New Arrivals at J.Crew

I stopped by at my local J.Crew and I tried on a few new arrivals:

Cami Size 6
First up is a new silk polka dot cami with ruffle collar. It fits TTS and it was perfect in my regular size. The collar is nice and the bust darts are nicely shaped. No significant gaping under arms. It is I think a little shorter than some other camis. I personally like it because despite being average height (I am 5'6), I have a short torso and some tops just too long on me, especially when worn untucked.

Nicely semi-fitted
It is fully lined and not see through. It has a single button closure in the back. The neckline is pretty high and does not look good with crew neck cardigan, but will probably be better with a v-neck.worn open.

$110, 100%silk with poly lining
Overall, the blouse is well done, imo. My only problem was that I am already bored with similar designs and I don't even own a polka dotted cami. I also saw a solid version in fuchsia, but it was very bright and doe in that slightly crinkly kind of silk I don't like. The price is also high for what it is imo.

I also tried on a new No2 double serge wool pencil skirt in green.

Size 4
It fits TTS, no surprises here.  I mostly tried it on to show you the color. It is a very pretty green, deeper and more green that Viridian green from last year. It looks teal on my monitor but it is deep green IRL. I could not justify the color since I already own Viridian green but it is beautiful.

New striped cashmere sweater

Size Medium
The sweater fits TTS. I tried the larger of my sizes because I wanted it to fit a bit slouchy. If you want closer fit go with your smaller sizes, I think it works both ways. The arms are 3/4 length which may be a problem for some. I would prefer that they are full length. The are also kind of wide and I did not like them unrolled. I thought I took the picture, but I must have deleted it by accident.

I liked the stripes, even if I have more that enough of them.  I liked the sweater with both pencil skirt and pants. The black and white could be paired with any color bottoms. The cashmere felt substantial enough, (similar to boatneck stripe cashmere sweater) and soft to touch.

It is not something I need, so I passed, but I liked the sweater a lot.

I have to say, all these items are nice, just seemed a little boring and repetitive. Maybe I just have too much J.Crew in my closet already.

That's all folks!

What do you think of these new arrivals?
It this a case of 'same old, same old' or 'don't fix it if it ain't broke'?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. Hey AJC! Thanks for the preview!

I am with you - no more polka dots for me. I am getting more and more bored with the regular things. Time for Jenna et al to do something interesting. Where is Marissa??? I am not loving Tom - he just seems to repeat, repeat, repeat....

Am looking elsewhere more and more...

    1. I don;t know if you have seen my post on JCA after I viewed the article about Frank's house. He has the same looking oriental rug in practically every room of his house. I am sure every one is 'unique' but hey, they look the same and It is boring.
I think the only reason I desparately cling to J.Crew is this blogging community, not the clothes.

  2. Lovely top-- I still have no dots so not burned out here.

BTW, good news! You are actually 1 1/2 inches taller than average-- how's that to start your day!

    1. If you don't have any polka dots I think this is a very nice top, no complains.
Yay for raising above the average!!!
Of course beauty comes in all sizes...

  3. That skirt looks like the in-store only color from last Fall. It was my absolute favorite from last year
    Thank you for the reviews.

    1. It is similar but this one is more green irl, like deep forest green with only slight blue undertones.

  4. These are nice, but I think J Crew is going too heavy on the same-old. They need to change course on their jewelry too, enough with the giant brights. My question on this post is about the yellow/tan pants you are wearing. Are they something new or just what you had on that day? Thanks for the reviews!

    1. Never mind, those look like Scout chinos.

    2. ITA about the jewelry, I never got a bubble necklace but they are seriously everywhere and soooo recognizable.
These pants are GAP sexy boyfriend cords in ornament(??). I will review them tomorrow along with sexy boyfriend jeans. I LOVE them!

    3. Oh, interesting... I have a store credit there I need to use, maybe I'd try these cords. On me, I like Matchstick-skinny, not skinny-skinny, so these might fit the bill. Thanks!

    1. Hi Phiphi, everything was pretty but I was yawning in the fitting room and even my VPS agreed. She had no enthusiasm because she knew I have several variations of each item already, so she figured out I would not be buying anything

  6. Thanks AJC. I always appreciate your reviews! I agree that this is a yawn. Too much of the same. I hope holiday has a little more variety-but if not-there are lots of other places to shop :-)

    1. I am not very encouraged by what I have seen from the Holiday collection.
But definitely, there are more places...

  7. Yes, at first glance, I admired the Polka dot top, too. But, when I went back, I was not as impressed. Maybe I don't want ruffles anymore. It is a lovely top, and J Crew is wise to address the need for more simple work appropriate tops. I just don't think that top is worth $110.00, although it is very pretty on you. I do have the Naomi dot cami (substantially less expensive), and I think it goes with everything. I love them in theory, but it is easy to go on dot "overload"!I love the look of the caramel boatneck striped cashmere, but I always worry that a cashmere pullover can be too warm. I like the striped crewneck on you- very flattering!

    1. I think the moment you don;t like a pencil skirt J.Crew is in serious trouble ;)

  9. It's like they heard "Bring back the classics," and completely misinterpreted it. Meanwhile I wuss they would bring back the Foxtrot jacket, BUT WITHOUT CUTTING CORNERS.

    1. Exactly. Classics with corners cut are just disposable clothing.

I feel like I've seen that cami a million times before. The trim around the collar looks sloppy to me.

    2. "I gave you everything you ever wanted.
      It wasn't what you wanted..."
      ITA about cutting corners.

  10. Yes, big yawn. I can't believe that top, between the ruffled collar and the polka-dots it is so deja vu... I kind of miss the tees in bad French, at least those were fun. I have the teal pencil from last year and it looks exactly the same color but I trust you is not (in any case I am not looking at pencils this year)

    1. I agree, I kind of miss those tees. But not the tiny holes in them, lol.
      Deja vu is rigth...

  11. Thanks for the preview reviews, as always! I agree with all of you that we are just seeing the same things repeated and like wellfedfred said, they heard bring back the classics and misinterpreted it. Love your music quote. :) I really miss Marissa! I feel like J Crew has lost some of the "twist" in their "classics with a twist" angle. I'm open to looking elsewhere--although not entirely ;)--but I really don't know where else to look! Either it's too expensive (like Tory Burch), I get overwhelmed (like Shopbop) or the quality/style isn't there (like GAP-except I think they still do bottoms well sometimes--can't wait to see your sexy bf jeans review!). I was really looking forward to the rollout later this month, especially since rewards cards will be coming out soon, but I'm worried we're going to be seeing more of the same.
