OK, after seeing the catalog yesterday I have rather low expectations, so when I started browsing I was actually pleasantly surprised. It is not so bad, I thought. But when I thought of picking some items I like for this post, I wasn't finding much. Here are my quick picks. There is nothing I am drooling over:

I have always liked the Liberty Shirts (sans the price):
Liberty perfect shirt in assorted florals
 Liberty perfect shirt in claire-aude

Love the shape of the coat but I am pretty sure I will get bored with pink. Still, it looks lovely but too expensive for me.

Collection shawl-collar coat
The Hothouse print is questionable for me. I think this dress has a shape like the black and white tweed dress, which worked very nice for me, so I am tempted to try it. On the other hand, I am not sure if I like the print itself or is it matronly.  What do you think?

And where can you wear it outside of special events (which I don;t have any coming up)? And even then, I would probably want something more modern. Still, I want to see it IRL.

Hothouse floral dress
The skirt looks like a possibility too. It could be dressed down but again, but I am not sure if I like the print itself and I don;t usually wear green, although I don't know why.

The peplum dress may be hot mess if the fit is off but it may be a winner too. I want to try it in black, I don;t think I can pull off both peplum AND red.

 Peplum dress in stretch wool
And finally, No2 pencil skirt in Antique White, I thought it would be cool for winter with a black or charcoat sweater.

That's all folks!

What are your favorites from this rollout?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. The Collection Shawl Collar Coat is stunning. Not sure if I could pull of the color, but love the drama and shape. It would have to be a super sale or Warehouse Sale find to justify buying for me. Thanks for sharing your picks.

  2. You are so great with all the reviews. You post them a few at a time and I read them all but when you see all that you've done in one shot it is impressive.

I am starting to obsess about the Liberty shirt in blue paisley and it is in my cart. Are the Liberty shirts ever available in stores? I'm in the U.S. next week so I'll have to check the B&Ms nearby. I'm not sure about the hothouse floral print either. I expect the colors IRL won't be nearly as nice as they look all washed out online. Unless this sells out I will get to check it out in person next week.

    1. Aaannnnd, the Liberty shirt is ordered. I had to, they were running out of stock in my size. At least I shipped it to my U.S. hotel, like the cashmere sweater I ordered on Monday, so I can return it at the store right away if it doesn't work out.

  3. I've ordered that white skirt! One trick pony here.

The peplum dress - oh there are squillions of them on the HIgh St here, for cheap, I'd stay away, I have old peplums from yonks ago that I still wear but I hate how this has become a trend, my old things will look out. Urgh I hate fashion sometimes.

Oh I have something in Polish to mail to you!

  4. The hothouse floral is SO matronly. PASS! I am a sucker for prints but not this one. I have the ivory ds pencil from 2008, the original one, but I've never worn it because I am afraid I'll get something on it!

    1. I like the print, but I would like to see it in a cami or something. I was all about the blouse until I saw it a few pages later and it looked like it had a bunch of pleats at the top ...?

I pushed the catalog over to my 7-y-o son and asked him to point out something I would buy. He flipped a few pages and saw the hothouse floral blouse and said "THIS." lol!

  5. Also, the no. 2 pencil in jade looks smashing on you. That is one of the few things I want from this rollout.

  6. My favorites are: the plaid wool scarf, the stadium cloth duffel coat in nectar, and velvet matchstick jeans in navy. I like other things, but those are my favorites for now. I wonder, though, if this rollout is the whole holiday rollout. I thought I was told early November for holiday. I hope this isn't it. The sweaters are really lacking, for people who don't want cashmere or Cosby. The hothouse print is pretty but I think I will admire it from afar, as greens don't look great on me. But I am a sucker for a pretty floral print so I won't say never.

Others I like include the winter white wool cafe capris, square neck cashmere sweater in heather caramel, the cashmere purl-stitch snood (at that price I say never), the flame floral jacquard dress and skirt, and the officer coat. I am very disappointed with their jewelry, again. It used to be great, why did they do this?

Thanks for the reviews they are really helpful!

    1. Cate if this is holiday, what will they do in December, they have two rollouts then or does it have another name?

    2. I have no idea, I just think there must be more. Where are my waffle shirts?!! I think we'll see more sequins in November, probably more hats/gloves/scarves too. I honestly don't know what to expect any more from J. Crew. Sometimes I'll ask the Chat person on jcrew.com when the next rollout will be in stores or online, that may be where I got my information about a big early-November rollout. I could be wrong.

  7. Your reviews are so helpful!! You've saved me from many a buy/return - and of course - piqued my interest on quite a few things. I might sit out on this roll out... *need* is not a factor here :) Thank you :)

  8. I got my catalog yesterday (finally) and the only things I liked were the houthouse print items and two of the new flannel plaid shirts, especially the gray one! Other than that I'm sitting this one out, just not feeling most of the pieces or the combinations of them. :-/

  10. I always know if I see something in store that catches my eye, I can go home, and you almost certainly will have reviewed it. You have a great eye and great taste( or maybe I am just saying that because we have such similar taste!)and your reviews are spot on. I was wondering about the lace shirt today, but did not have time to try it on. Sure enough I came home- and here it is. Thanks again!

  11. The only thing that I would potentially buy at FP in this rollout are the camel plaid cafe capris, if they don't add pounds to my hips as lined pants usually do (I know, I am one of the few who prefers unlined wool pants). The rest is meh, or I already have or I can look elsewhere for a cheaper version. But who knows, maybe the stores will have some fab in-store only item. There is nothing specifically holida-y in this rollout so maybe the stores will get some of that stuff earlier than the website?
BTW, did you get my email about next Tuesday?

  12. I forgot to mention, I think the hothouse skirt looks very dowdy even on the model! And enough with the hookups, just give us a dress
