New Peter Pan Collar Sweater and Colorblock Striped Tee

Peter Pan collars are everywhere this season. J.Crew has the silk collar sweatshirt and jeweled collar sweater and on my recent visit to the store I spotted more.

Size Medium, TTS
This sweater also comes in red (burgundy?).  It has 50% alpaca and it is unbelievably itchy and very sheer. Maybe you could wear it with a long sleeved crewneck underneath?

But why would you even bother?

 Itchy and sheer
You can clearly see the outline of my bra and the effect was even more pronounced irl.

Personally, I think this sweater is a total fail, the fit is very mediocre and the colors are drab.

$89.50
Sorry J.Crew, I would not wear it if you paid me $89.59.

Size Small
This top is not new and I saw it in store few weeks ago but never go to try it.

Love the colors
For some reason I grabbed a Small instead of a Medium and I felt it was a little too tight. I am in between sizes  in knit tops but usually prefer a Medium, so I think it fits TTS

The colors are very flattering imo and the knit is substantial and it drapes well. The stripes on the sleeves did not line up with the stripes on the body.

On a model it is actually even more pronounced, which makes it look intentional. IRL it looks like it should be matched but it is not. I tried to ignore it but I am OCD and it was bothering me enough to be a deal breaker.

That's all folks!

Am I being too harsh about the peter pan collar sweater?
Would the unlined stipes bother you?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. I love the pants you are wearing in the photos. How did you like them?

    1. Hi Buffy,
White pants are scout chinos and I love them. Brown check pants are a new arrival and I reviewed them HERE. Also great, but pricey

  2. No you are no being harsh on the PPan sweater, I saw them at Riverside and noted that the stitching on the collar was uneven right at the curved part. In a sewing class that would be a fail.

    1. Itchy, sheer, expensive and bad quality, what else?

  3. The Peter Pan collar top is such a disappointment! I thought it had such a cute Audrey Hepburn vibe and would go well with my navy flair skirt from last year and many other things.
Glad you saved me the time and money to order.

  4. AJC, you are so funny funny funny! Admittedly, I am the opposite of OCD to my husband's great chagrin, but presumably, one does not stand with arms hanging straight by sides very often! On moving arms, the line up would not even be considered right?? I think you should get the top just to practice conquering the OCD on demand! (I'm sure you want to keep it for most other uses.) Love your posts!!

    1. Oh, and as for peter pan collars -- I think they are cute, but I can only get them on button downs that I leave unbuttoned on top. I just can't quash the feeling that buttoned all the way up, they look so little-girlish. What do you think??

    2. Thanks Audreys, practice conquering the OCD, that's an idea!
And yes, peter pan collars are def problematic, although I just saw a black & white print top at Kate Spade with red silk collar that is just adorable! I think too sweet for me but I love it!

  5. You are not being too harsh about that sweater. I tried that on a few weeks ago and could not believe I was wearing a J. Crew item. It was an epic fail. So unbelievably itchy, totally see-through and not worth the price.
