Sorry about the glare but I could not find a good angle to take better picture. I think this is a new pencil skirt in crimson maple. Very pretty color that is quite tempting. I have a persimmon skirt from I think 2009 but this one is more of watermelon red with some pink undertones pink, not the J.Crew's favorite color, persimmon/modern red/flame (aka orange).
Fuchsia/berry pink Majesty Peacoat, yummy. If I was looking for a bright coat this could be an option. I was not crazy about the gold buttons though. I don't mind them on my navy Majesty Peacoat but they seemed a bit jarring with pink. I like the puffer vest too but I never know when to wear them.
They must have been reading Dani's color story posts because there is a lot of pink with brown and camel here. The pants are actually very nice, 100% wool and fully lined in poly. They are modern version of grandpa pants with modern slim cut but full length, thank you!
Classic fall color combination in shades of Autumn leaves, crimson and golden yellow grounded by some neutral jeans, very eye pleasing, even if slightly predictable.
New pencil skirt. This is the one I missed photographing a while ago.
The sweaters were already available but the skirts were only on mannequins. Interesting to see a bold graphic skirt for the fall/winter.
Not sure how much you can actually see here as the glare was horrible but it is a new burgundy and blue sweater embelished all over with some mettalic squares.
And finally, a rare neutral outfit in sea of color all around.
Of course, since I was in the store, I took several items to the fitting room. I tried on French hen sweater, Look#16 sweater from Fall 2012 Lookbook, brown check wool trousers displayed above, couple of new pencil skirts and much more.
I also stopped by Madewell and tried on Flowersketch Peplum top.
I will have reviews of all these items coming up.

That's all folks!
What do you think of the new arrivals?
Do you like J.Crew color stories?
Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!
Thanks very much for all the pics! I like the last one the best. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the color palette! Reds, tans, and burgundy and fuchsia to balance each other out is a great combination. The two-tone Mary Janes were in the catalog and I'm drooling over them. It looks like in pic #3 there's another all-over sequin tee, perhaps a non-zigzag alternative, lol. I like the plaid wool trousers a lot, though I wish there were a Cafe Capri version in a brown shade. There's a black and white wool Cafe Capri, but I really wanted a brown pair to wear with some nerdy loafers, maybe even with scrunched trouser socks showing (and Jenna glasses?)! I love the [dark] red Tippi cardigan over a Liberty Floral Shirt + jeans in #4 and #5; normally this style might be too staid for my tastes, but I love how the colors and prints make the outfit pop. Black/white pencil skirt in #7 (your store has a lot of window space!) looks like a logic puzzle I want to start tinkering with . . . they're really going heavy on the 60s op art right now! The crystal clusters on the sweaters recalls the Constellation Cardigan from 2008(?) that Michelle Obama wore; I'm glad they're bringing back that motif. And I like the slouchy, spacedye sweater in the last photo. Phew, lots to talk about (and love!) here!
ReplyDeleteThought at first glance that was the return of the Sterling skirt in crimson maple which FFM noted, but shape seems No. 2. Cheers for posting all the vignettes and look forward to your trouser review.
ReplyDeleteThanks AJC!!
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of the crimson maple skirt! I think this will be my coloured skirt for the later fall into the winter. Will fit my colour story and I think it is lovely! I like the trousers as well and think I could work with them!
I am not liking the graphic skirt at all, but I think it is simply my aversion to those colours. I am not sure what to think of the floral skirt. I go from horror to desire and then back again!
Just realised you tried on the Lookbook/16 sweater. Excited about fit/ actual colours/ itch-factor input so I can potentially avoid "PTTO" here.
ReplyDeleteAll lovely! Did you happen to see any pants in the Golden Hickory color? I am holding out buying burgundy pants for the season until I know....Have the skirt and love it.
ReplyDeleteI really like the slim full length pants - tried the ankle thing - on my 5'2" frame it's not a "good thing".
Thanks SO much for this preview!!!!!
ReplyDeleteajc you're right I could get myself into trouble adding brown/camel/pink to my color story. I love the bright pinks and that crimson maple looks gorgeous, what an unusual color!
ReplyDeleteThis is where J Crew gets us, their colors. We love them! I'm really looking forward to your reviews, thanks for these pictures and your thoughts on the new roll-out. I am so happy you're back. :)
Thanks for all of the preview pics ajc! It's so fun to see them IRL. Love the bright pinks with camel and burgundy. Definitely in my fall plan. :) The crimson maple is so pretty as well -- I think that one in the Sterling might go on my list. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking these shots, I love the early previews. I really like the pink/burgundy/camel color mix and I am strangely drawn to the buffalo checked sort of shirt in the first photo. Also interested in the brown checked pants you tried. The double-strap mary janes look interesting too.
ReplyDeleteMore great photos as always. I'm not sure what I think about the current direction. They seem to be all over the place right now. Lots of gold buttons, though. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pictures. Our paths almost crossed last night, because my son wanted to get something at the mall, but we wound up not going at the last minute!I agree about the god, but it is everywhere in every store. The pink is so pretty, however.
ReplyDeleteoops I meant gold(buttons, etc.)...
Deletegreat pictures ajc!!! i am loving these colour palettes. can't wait to read your reviews!! xox P

Phew it's all a bit bright, I like some of the colour mixes but it would look so out of place in Europe, the Paris 'ladies' in autumn winter dress in a mix of camel, grey and brown, I really like their elegant look and am going to try to emulate them - some hope.
ReplyDeleteI'm really curious about the double strap mary janes. Thanks for the pics!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the pictures AJC. You are much better than the "style guide". Being a shirt fiend, the only thing that's really gotten my attention are the Liberty shirts. I agree with Gigi that their "look" seems to be in flux right now. When Marissa was at the helm, JC's style seemed to have focus. Now a lot of it seems to be based loosely on a few styles that have sold well for them in the past, but they have cut out the details(too expensive-bonuses affected!!!) that distinguished them in the first place(tie silk backing on jacket collars). I hate to order because I know I will be disappointed and then if I do decide to keep my order, I hate to wear it because I know before the day is over it may develop a hole, a snag or it will just fall apart. Am I grouchy today or what?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos, looking forward to your reviews!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the Crimson Maple colour, I will definitely pick up a No. 2 or Sterling Skirt in that colour. In the photo with the black/white geometric pencil skirt, is the mannequin beside it wearing a bright blue pencil? Is that the Festival Blue or a new colour?
Thank you, thank you!!! I am so happy to see pretty pinks, berry shades and saturated colors. That geometric pencil skirt is unexpected, but I like it. Hoping the grandpa pants are in solid colors too.
ReplyDeleteOoooo, thanks so much for the pics. I love reading your commentary too. The metal studded sweater is interesting. It's something I'd admire from afar, probably not something I could pull off.
ReplyDeleteThe sensible side of me is all for neutrals, but the little girl is giddy for color.
So nice to get a sneak peek! The colors are fairly classic so it should be easy enough to just pick and choose from my existing wardrobe to pair things up in a fresh way. Nothing looks to revolutionary so far. I bought a burgundy blouse last fall and I love it but I'd like a burgundy skirt this season too. Keeping my eye out for that one.
ReplyDeleteJ.crew must have waited till you came back to do a major roll out . Love how we get a sneak peek from you. Have you seen or ever tried on a Sterling skirt? Thanks for the pictures.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the preview! Do you remember how much the sweater with the sequins on it is? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the preview! Do you know anything about the Buffalo Check shirt in the first pic? (With the crimson maple skirt) It's so pretty but I haven't seen it online or in my store yet!
