J.Crew April Rollout Preview - New Pencil Skirts

Like I mentioned on JCA, I got an email form my PS about the new collection arriving today at Garden State Plaza concept store. These items will probably end up in other stores and online in April.  Of course, I had to go check it out for you!

I took lots of pictures and tried on quite a few things, but it is already late, so I only have time for a quick post, but I will have more soon.

These are the new pencil skirts and schoolboy blazer.

Size 4

Fits TTS

I really like this print

$138
I like the red lining, very cute.
Pockets in the back
Notice that the pattern on the skirt is matched!!! That's the way to go J,Crew, thank you!

Schoolboy in 100% linen

Size 6, TTS

I am guessing the blazer may be coming in other colors, maybe in navy?

The skirt below is the same price, fit and fabric content as paisley skirt above.

Size 4

Fully lined and TTS

I think this flower print is nice, somewhere between realistic and abstract and will go with many tops.

cute little clutches

This is what I took to the fitting room

That's all folks

What do you think?
Do you like the skirts or the blazer?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

I will have more tomorrow, stay tuned!

  2. I bought that schoolboy then took it back in a fit of guilt but it's lovely.
And I think that's the first Paisley print I've ever seen that I actually like!

    1. Paisley prints sometimes scare me, but I like this one.

  3. I love that first paisley skirt. Is it a red and aqua mix paisley? Beautiful colors! I may have to put a future rewards card toward that one :) Thank you so much AJC!

    1. It is red and teal/aqua. The red has oink undertones. The fabric is very nice, it has some texture to it, almost like it is quilted.

    2. Not "oink", but pink undertones!
      lol

    3. I LOL'ed at "oink undertones" ;)

  4. J Crew & their lady parts skirts. Too bad they won't match up the patterns. It's really noticeable in some of the prints, esp the dot print. As always, thanks for sharing your wonderful preview pics!!

    2. Gigi you are funny :) I don't thing this is as pronounced in this skirt as in some other ones. It did not bother me.

  5. I really love the first skirt! I got a theory cotton blazer in white last summer so I am set there and I like the matching it with the skirts! I am introgued by the floral, but would need to see close up! Thank you AJC! You didn't see the striped silk dress did you? I am contemplating a pre-order on that one!

    1. Love Theory blazers, I think I will do a post on Theory soon, I have quite a few pieces.
No I did not see a striped dress, I saw few others that I did not try. I did not like the flower print at first glance, but I liked it better in the pictures.

  6. Just wondering how many paisley skirts one can have... I was thinking the other day that I would love to have a white blazer. I see that the color code is WHI but it looks more ivory in your pics. Is it a real white?
Thanks for the pics, can't wait to see the rest!

    1. Actually, I don't think I have any, can you believe it? I may get this one. The blazer was white as far as I remember and in fitting room white. It is not pure white but not ivory, more like cream. I think it will read white unless you pair it with pure white skirt or top. The tee I am wearing underneath is white.

    2. I meant "fitting room light", lol

  7. I do love the colors in the first paisley skirt, so that's fun! I'm not loving the floral print that much, but sometimes they grow on you. The blazer is a nice basic, definitely, but maybe at a sale price. I'm loving the rattan cluth in the stripes and red!

    1. Me too! The paisley skirt would be great with denim or chambray. The colors are a little softer IRL.

  10. The colors of the first paisley skirt are beautiful, but I'm not really a fan of the paisley pattern. I'm very picky about my paisleys!

Looking forward to seeing more! I always LOVE your preview posts!

    1. I can understand, I am very picky about paisleys too, I guess that's why I don't have any paisley skirts. I bought quite a few and always returned.
But I actually love this one.
      Thanks!

  11. Love the colors in the paisley skirt but since I don't like patterns on the bottom half, would most likely try it in a top (which I see you have one coming up next review). The flower skirt is nice! The flower skirt is nice too. All the items you tried look great on you. Thanks for the preview!

  13. Thank you for the preview photos and reviews. I do like paisley but I'm not a fan of this color combo, it seems a bit harsh to my eyes. I am just not loving J.Crew prints this season but I certainly seem to be in the minority here.

    1. hi xoxo, not much that I like from J.Crew either. I think this will be first time when I will not get a reward card. That is unless I buy somethig soon, I think I am about $25 away from reaching $500 this quarter.
The colors on this skirt are softer irl, you may like them more. I would pair it with denim, they are actually a little washed out. I am with you on harsh color combos, that's why I don't like the red with navy (like in Gondola blouse) even if it is classic. I much prefer tonal pairing but I like this one very much. I associate it with some hippie bandanas, and I have a soft spot for it (hippie meets preppy?).

  14. Thanks, AJC!! Love your posts about what's to come! I think I need the striped rattan clutch (do you remember if they were black--not navy--stripes??) and the striped blazer is intriguing! Looking forward to your next post! :)

    1. I and pretty sure the clutches were black, but I did not look carefully. As much as I love the look they will not work for me...

  15. i love these skirts! and what i'm coming to love about j. crew is their dedication to a style that works for so many. i know you've said that you are getting bored with that but to a person with my sensiblilities, this is exciting. if i worked in an office there is no doubt in my mind that i'd have a collection of these pencil skirts - just like you. it would be hard to only pick one or two per season. j. crew is really growing on me, esp in light of dani telling me about their social responsiblity policies. xo janet

    1. Those skirts are nice and I am more excited about the paisley skirt than I have been about anything J.Crew recently. As I type my responses I am convincing myself, lol. I think I will get it...
There is no designer that does the pencil skirts for my body type any better. Of course I am wearing one right now (honey glaze boucle with my liberty flower shirt).

  17. Funny, I don't have any strong feelings either way about the paisley skirt, but I love the floral print skirt! And normally I'm not big on florals...it must be the colours. Thanks for the amazing reviews, as always!

    1. caitlin, I think the colors are great on the floral skirt, it will go with so many things. I also like that it has a lot of white, it is perfect for the summer.

  18. I liked the first skirt on you as most of the other ladies. I saw a scarf in the print of the second skirt and I actually really loved it, did not purchase though and I am sure I will regret that.
So looking forward to the rest of your reviews. Thank you so much, it truly is greatly appreciated.
    Have a wonderful day!!!

  19. White linen blazers make me think of Don Johnson in Miami Vice...and I still want one. Now I'm torn between the white Eyelet Schoolboy and the off-white linen Schoolboy. Dang it. Maybe I'll just wait and see if it comes in Navy....

For some reason, that crazy floral skirt is calling my name. It looks like it has black AND white in it, which automatically means that it will go with half of the tops in my wardrobe. Might have to pick it up.

    Thanks AJC!

  20. Like AppGal, I'm picky about my paisley, although I have plenty in my closet. And like GiGi, I don't like when they seem to "point" to certain areas. :) So while I love the colors, I don't think it's for me. Of course, I may change my mind after seeing it IRL. I am in LOVE however with the floral skirt!
