Blushing while reading

I have been shopping my closet recently. I have nothing on the wishlist, despite it being a wishlist season. I have not been to the store for a couple of weeks and I have only received a couple of packages, including the Everly shoes and Macalister wedges. I don't even check the sale section and I feel much calmer because of that. Instead I have been wearing many of my old favorites. This should be the goal of all that shopping after all, enjoying the clothes you have, rather than stressing out due to the constant hunting for the newest and greatest.

Another thing that calms me down is reading. When I read more, I shop less and feel more at peace. My current read is The History of Love by Nicole Krauss. I just started, but it looks good. Have you read it?

This Blush Tweed pencil skirt is one of my reliable outfit makers. It goes with many colors because of the multicolor tweed but I love it best with black. That seems to be one of my outfit formulas. Wear a colorful skirt or shirt and everything else black, it never fails. Add some pearls to bring the reflect some light on the face.

My blouse is one of the very oldest items in my closet and I am always looking for worthy replacement. It was a cheap buy from Style & Co many years ago and one of very few items that I actually regret not getting a back up.

My shoes are a similarly old buy from Nine West, I like them for their slightly vintage vibe even if they are not the most flattering or sexy but somehow the slightly clumsy effect adds to their charm, at least in my mind.

We got some snow here yesterday, but today it is back to beautiful fall weather. I actually don't mind the cold at all, as long as it is sunny. How about you?

That's all folks!

Do you feel calmer when you shop you closet more?
Do you own Blush Tweed skirt?

What have you been reading recently?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. Love your outfit and formula for an easy, flattering look. I'm such a pencil skirt fan and love the J Crew textured wool pieces. Enjoy The History of Love. I read it several years ago and was struck that it was so different than anything I had ever read before on the subject and enjoyed every minute reading it. Have you read any of her husband Jonathan Safran Foer's books? I read, Everything is Illuminated which is worth reading.

    1. Thank you AmW. I heard of Everything is Illuminated but I haven't read it. Maybe I can pick it up next time at the library.

  2. You look great. This is such a chic and flattering outfit! It's amazing how those originally inexpensive, long-owned purchases can be so useful in a wardrobe. If only there were a way to predict while buying things now which pieces would turn out to have that cachet and value over time!

    1. Thank you! Seriously, I would give a lot to be able to predict. Some of my cherished possessions are the cheapest items in my closet!

    1. Thank you Gigi! I seem to go through stages, sometimes I read a book a week and sometimes I go months reading nothing. Same thing with exercising...

  4. I feel definitively stressed out by the constant new stuff coming out. There is always something that picks my interest, no matter how many I have already. Being engaged in a good read has the same effect on me too (I shop less, it kind of fills that void).
I have a great book recommandation. I am reading "A working theory of love" that just came out and my friend (who is a writer and editor) gave to me. I love it, it is the story of a divorced guy in San Francisco who is working on a AI project to build a computer who can think like a human being (which is the Eldorado of AI). To this purpose this machine has been fed with the extensive diaries of his father, who committed suicide when the main character was in college. So as the computer learns to "talk" like a human the guy has the feeling that he is talking to his father. It's brilliant, I think and I also like that it takes place in SF (strangely not many books are), where I have never been.

    1. I think we need some kind of 'creative' outlet and shopping is a substitute that feels that void but I know I am happier when I find other means and shop based on needs.
A working theory of love sounds great! Thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely check it out.
Funny, I've also never been to SF and I always wanted to go.

  5. I love that skirt. I have the jacket in that fabric which is gorgeous, a friend gave it to me just a couple of months ago.
I also haven't been shopping much and feel better for it, and I am enjoying not looking at the sale section. I think when we get on a shopping roll it is hard to get off, it sort of feeds itself or something. I need to shop my closet for a good long while, I just did my budget for next year and I won't have many funds for shopping, it's time to be satisfied and stop looking at the sale sites!
I read every night and it is the best part of my day, I can't be on my computer or watch tv before bed, I need the calm of reading. I'm going to look up your book and the one Ema suggest too, thanks!

    1. I had the jacket too. It was gorgeous but I sold it to a JCA because I cannot do the Chanel-esque jackets, but I agree this was one of J.Crew bests in this area.
I am not looking at the J.crew website and I don;t miss it. My clothing budget for next year will also be very small but I am not worrying about it, this is the last thing I need...

  6. Love this skirt on you! I have shopped enough for awhile, too. Sent back more than I am keeping!

I am ready "The Hare with the Amber Eyes" - it is amazing!

  7. I agree with everything you said in the 1st paragraph and living it. I have not bought anything from J. Crew for the past 4 months. Been going on Polyvore for outfit inspirations and it is so fun. I rarely go on the J. Crew website and agree with you that there is a sense of calm. One should enjoy the clothes they bought instead of hunting for another item.

I'm reading 'Cloud Atlas'...a bit slow but I'm intrigued with the story. Hoping to finish it so I can go see the movie soon.

    1. You are definitely not missing much with J.Crew Wendy. I did not even go through the last rollout, I feel Like I have a hangover from all the shopping and returning. And I find myself happier with my clothes when I buy less. Not mentioning that I gain some time once I don;t check the website, I don;t spend hours debating what to buy, when to buy, place orders, make returns, rebuy etc.
I was going to see the Cloud atlas, but maybe I should check out the book first?

  8. I am loving your outfit. Thank your for the many outfit inspirations for this time of the year since I tend to fall back on the same old turtlenecks. I also love to read. You can take my iphone & laptop but not my Kindle. I list all the books that resonate with me and The History of Love is in the list. I'm eagerly anticipating the movie being produced by people from the Harry Potter films and directed by Alfonso Cuaron. I think it's in good hands but who knows how it will translate to film. I thought at that time Emma Watson can play Alma but by this time maybe she's too old? Having daughters, I thought you may also enjoy Special Topics in Calamity Physics.

    1. Thank you Marie! I am glad you liked the History of Love too! I did not know that there is a movie coming out, how interesting. I will look up Special Topics in Calamity Physics, thank you for recommendation!

  9. I love that skirt, the nubby tweed woven in a large herringbone pattern is quite unique. It looks good with black.

I'm shopping my closet quite a bit lately but also finding things to love at my favorite local boutiques. I was going to buy the cashmere getaway hoodie on the latest J.Crew promo but the purple sold out in my size and I didn't even care. Normally I would ask my PS to do a locator for it but I've lost interest.

I'm envious of your fall weather. I've entered the deep bone freeze and won't thaw until spring.

    1. That skirt was one of the last from J.Crew with fuly fashioned waistband and the all wool tweed, I am so glad I got it.
You have so many lovely things in your closet, you will not miss J.Crew at all. Especially with the nose dive in quality. I love shopping at local boutiques, the experience is very different and I like supporting local small business as opposed to huge multinational corporations.
We have has a nice weather but it looks even better because my posts are usually a week or so behind.

  10. I agree that shopping less and enjoying what you have is really important. It can be challenging though since there are always new items that seem like "must haves." I bought some spring & summer stuff at J Crew but nothing for fall. Also, I haven't bought anything at Anthro over the past year. The pieces I have bought there and still wear are about 3-4 years old. I'd be curious to know if others are still buying as much there. I really enjoy your blog and appreciate all the info!
