J.Crew Last Summer Rollout

I have stopped by my local J.Crew store on Wednesday to see the newest arrivals, some of them not yet online. Today, I will review two items that are already online, in case you are considering them. See my yesterday's post for additional pictures and links to reviews from May rollout.

No. 2 pencil skirt in deck stripe
Size 6
I liked this skirt a lot when I first spotted it in store. I was looking for horizontally striped skirt and even  tried on one from Talbots, but the fit didn't work for me. So I was excited to see one of J.Crew, which is always very consistent fit for me.

It is a pretty skirt, but the fit was a little different from my recently bought Porcelain Paisley, Raj Paisley and Superfine Cotton. All of them fit me similarly and I got size 4. This skirt was too tight in size 4, especially in the hips, the waist was OK. Size 6 fitted me much better but it sat lower on the hips due to bigger waist.. I had similar issue in big eyelet skirt in chili. It is surprising for me, because I don't have much in a way of curves below my waist.

55% linen, 45% cotton, lining 97% cotton, 3% spandex
Overall, it is a nice skirt, but the fit may be an issue, especially of you have a nice waist definition.

Vintage cotton tee in ikat
I like the fit of this tee, it does not bunch up at the hem and creates a waist definition, it is is also not too long, which I know some of you like but it is a problem for me especially that I like to wear t-shirts untucked with pencil skirts.  I like the print, it hides some minor imperfections and it is red, not orange. I like the sleeves because they drape well but I think that if you have broad shoulders they may accentuate it.
Size Medium, $46, 100% cotton
The price was $46 in store but I noticed that it is 39.50 online, what;s up with that? If you buy in store, make sure to ask for price adjustment. I do like this t-shirt but it is seriously overpriced.

I think the fit of the dress in the same print will be very similar.

Like I said, the cotton is very thin, so it will be probably very comfy but may cling and probably will not last long. I think this is OK in a t-shirt but in a dress it is problematic.

Since it is a new rollout, I also snapped some window display pictures:

If you like anchors there is more coming

That's all folks!

What other items are you considering?

  1. Is that a dress or a top with the anchor carigan over it, in your last photo? If it's a top, did you see it online? Love your reviews!

  2. I already don't have many places to wear pencil skirts, but I really don't know where I would wear the deck stripe pencil skirt. It looks like it might be too casual for an office setting. I know I'd have no idea how to style it. I did buy the beach shorts with navy horizontal stripes so I know I like the idea of the skirt, but the skirt is not for me. I like that ikat pattern a lot and I wonder if they will have it in a blue. The blue pattern on the window display dress looks really pretty and I'm looking forward to seeing that in person some day. Thanks for the reviews!!

    1. I think the skirt can be dressed up with a blouse, or a nice top and jewelry but I agree it can go pretty casual as well, I think it is a plus, but I would only consider it on sale. The ikat comes in navy as well.

  3. I want this skirt. I work in an office and plan on wearing it with a silk camp shirt (similar to the blythe) or a silk cami and cardigan.

    Thanks for the reviews ajc!

    1. kitsmommy, I think the skirt is very versatile and I like your styling ideas. I also like the blue version, which they did not have in the store.

  4. Thanks for the reveiw! Good to know about the fit on the stripe skirt...I've had my eye on this one. The eyelet skirt was tighter on me too in my normal size...though I have a bigger waist and little-to-no hips and butt. Why can't they just be consistent?

    1. I have the same type figure, go with your eyelet skirt size then.

  5. I tried the Ikat dress and though I liked the fit and the length - it hit my knee, the fabric is very thin. At $68, it is over priced IMHO.

    1. agree, it is very thin, it would make a nice nightgown. Not at this price though.

  6. Thanks for this! Very pretty and very classic J. Crew!

That yellow eyelet skirt is amazing! Maybe I will get some measurement info from my PS on that one. :)

Did you happen to try that one on??>

    1. It is lime green, I did try it and will post a review soon. It was also tight and had to size up to a 6. It had the same fit as red eyelet skirt, if you tried that one. I think it may gap in the waist for you Dina since you have a tiny waist but the eyelet skirt will be better than a deck stripe which is very straigth.

  7. AJC, Are those new capris in the blue and red daisylike pattern hanging in the fitting room? They look super cute.

    1. Yes, Bonnie, they are capris. I tried them and they are super cute, albeit rather bold. I know I said I cannot do colorful pants but I was tempted, only I already got foulard capris which are somewhet similar.
I know not everybody likes the foulards, but I never got so many compliments, even from random strangers asking me where I got them, so maybe I am warming up to the look.

    2. So funny you mention the foulards. I was wondering if these were too similar. I have them too and like you, I got compliment after compliment on them. I work in a high school and I had people asking me all day where I got my pants. I had a guy on the street(complete stranger) come up to tell me I look hot in those pants. There is just something about them that people really like.

    1. Rynetta, I ordered my old size. I don't know why as I've been going up one lately. I'm curious to see how it fits. Sounds like it's going to be an exchange at minimum. Looking forward to seeing you in yours.

  14. Did you try on the anchor cardi? It looks so cute! But I got the blue heart Tippi, so doubt I'll get it. The new items look really cute! And I'm tempted to try that deck stripe skirt b/c I have no hips and not much of a waist. Maybe it'll fit me well, lol! Looks great on you btw.

  15. I love both the striped skirt and the porcelain paisley skirt on you, I wish I could buy! Thanks for the detailed reviews and pictures.

If you see the neon tweed short sleeved jacket in your store, I'd be interested in your opinion. I'm considering it and my wee little store will never get it.

  16. I am feeling like I am living one month behind, my stores do not display all the pretties that yours does. BUT.. I have heard DC is to open a new concept store soon, so maybe it will rival yours, lol.. I am excited about anchors,my faves...Thank you for posting.

  18. I just bought the Red Ikat T-Shirt dress...will report back with info as to whether or not it is super thin. I'm actually hoping that it is thin but not sheer b/c I need some feather-light play dresses for these hot, humid Georgia summers. Yuck, I'm sweating just thinking about it :(
