Porcelain Paisley Skirt and Other Upcoming Items

I am super excited to report to you that I stopped at J.Crew store yesterday and guess what they have already received???
No2 Pencil Skirt in Porcelain Paisley!!!

Size 4, TTS
Fits TTS, like other J.Crew pencil skirts. The fabric does not disappoint, very soft with some almost jacquard texture, print and color is beautiful. Falls to the knee cap on me, I am 5'6. It is about half inch longer than Raj Paisley pencil skirt, but is sits a smidge lower on my waist so it looks about inch and a half longer.

Update: I measured it and it is 22.5" long in size 4, center front.
with superfine cotton blazer
I just happened to be wearing the blazer and the white tee that day, but the skirt actually looked good with both.

Back view
Btw, I don't really like to try dresses or skirts barefoot, so I asked for shoes. The SA brought me black Monas in my regular heel size and they were very snug and uncomfortable.

side view
The print is not matched on the sides, but in J.Crew defense, I don't think that is possible with a print of such a large scale. Once you center it , the back will always be a  little wider than front and therefore the print with not match. It will also look different in different sizes, I imagine, since there is basically no repetition, other than front and back.

You should be able to see the texture of the fabric in the shot below, if not, open the image separately and blow it up.
$158,  98% cotton, 2%spandex, lining 100% poly
I like the skirt a lot and I took it home (although I am not taking the tags off just yet).  The skirt will be shipping next week for pre-orders and I think it will be in stores/online next Thursday.

Size Small $90, Size down
Those tees now come in few pretty shades, aqua blue, green, pink and more.

Nipped in the waist, high crewneck and wide sleeves
I know they are classic and 'real thing', the knit is soft and substantial, but I don't like the fit. It is not the unisex design and it is nicely nipped in the waist, but the neckline is too high and the sleeves are too wide.  I think it actually looks better in pictures than irl. If you have small chest it will probably look even worse. Size small was loose on me and it is smaller of my t-shirt sizes, so I would say size down.

Long Striped Cashmere Cardigan

Long and lean, with deep v neck
This cardigan is expensive but I loved the feel of it. It was super soft and cozy. It felt like I could actually wear it in the summer and it would be perfect for places where the nights are cooler (sadly, not in NJ) or just for air-conditioned offices.

Super soft and comfy
I also loved how if fitted. It is long and lean and the top button sits slightly above my navel.

If money was no object, I would snatch it right away. Since it IS, I left it in store, sniff, sniff.

Size Medium $268

  1. Love, love the pencil skirt on you! It's beautiful and very versatile. I'm also disappointed with the St. James tee, I'd love to own one great mariniere but it seems that it's either cut too wide, has a high neckline and wide arms that just do not work for my petite size. Thanks for the great reviews. I'm new to wearing pencil skirts, would you be able to give some suggestions about how to style this pencil skirt? Thanks

    1. I would treat this skirt as neutral and wear it with any bright solid top, red, orange, green or yellow would look great. The blue on it matches my cobalt blue snap tee and looks great with it too. J.Crew had it paired with blue vertically striped shirt, I tried it but it was iffy imo.

  2. Thanks for the great review! I have this skirt on preorder since you first posted it. I was worried it would be too short and you've put my mind at ease. I THINK this might work for me. The pattern is so pretty, and normally I'm not drawn to patterned skirts.

    1. Me neither but I absolutely love this one, I'm dying to see the dress.
I love the skirt with the white t and I think it looks great with the striped top too

  5. Thanks for the great review! I have this on pre-order. I am hoping to style it mainly with a white tshirt or my new rococco top. It is so lovely!

    1. forgot to say that this material looks exactly like a floral pencil skirt I bought from J Crew in '09. I loved that material!

    2. It should be great with white, rococco top may be better with plain skirt since it has that intricate china quality as well, ykwim?

  6. I love the skirt and the cardigan! I don't need another patterned pencil skirt as I have the feather paisley already, but I'd look at buying that cardigan, it's perfect for summer, I'd get loads of use out of that.
    Thanks ajc!

    1. I usually never think of cashmere for summer but somehow this felt cool, maybe it was just AC in the store, lol.

  8. Thanks for the reviews! The skirt and the sweater are pretty, just not for me. Thank you for your hard work.

  9. The skirt looks really good! I think I would really like that material, too. It looks like a cool, waffle type of cotton. I sent back the St. James tee too, but because I thought it was too small, actually. There is definitely something odd about its fit. The striped sweater looks nice, but not nice enough to pay $268. I have a feeling it is one of those things I would like more in person. I might try the St. James tee again in a size up, but probably won't buy the other items (unless the sweater goes on a major sale, and even then probably not because I would have to order it to try it on - I don't think our store has ever gotten anything cashmere in, we must be in a low budget area). Thanks so much for the reviews!

    1. The fit of St James is definitely odd. I thought we got used to the skinny sleeves anda that's why but it was just meh. Strange that it was too small on you, was it the hips? This is my small part..

    2. Hips and chest (in the Small), and those aren't even my problem areas. But it looked awkward and shapeless in the Medium. I like boxy sometimes, but this just looked bad on me.

  11. Thanks for the reviews. I like the skirt, especially with the white tee and navy blazer. It looks great on you and the patter is so unique that it will probably be a quick seller. The cardigan, is dreamy. I love that and would get a lot of use out if it in my climate. Plus, I love the length. BTW-have you seen the Cha Cha dress? Probably also not ideal for my figure-but I really want to try it.

    1. I hate paying FP but I am afraid it will sell out, but who knows?
I haven't seen the Cha Cha, I think it is collection store only. It is very pretty in red, great party frock for a special occasion, of course I need it like a hole in my head, lol.

  12. Thank you for these reviews and IRL photos. I thought the skirt was white but next to the white tee it looks a bit ivory. Not that it should matter, it looks lovely. I also have it on preorder. As for the other two items, I'm striped out for this season, especially the white or beige with navy and black.

    1. It is ivory and the blue is cobalt, or maybe it is wedgewood? I agree tee looks off in the pictures but I think it looks better irl however camera picks it up more.
Yes, I cannot get excited about stripes anymore.

  13. Awesome review per usual, ajc. I love the texture on the skirt. It's like the texture on the beautiful floral pencil skirt from 2009, I think. I pre-ordered and am looking forward to receiving it. I do fear that the print will be a bit much for my backside, but we'll see. Thanks again for the pics!

    1. Thanks Gigi!
The texture is great, one of the reasons I love this skirt.
I don't think it emphasizes the backside, although I don't have much to emphasize, so I usually don't mind.

  15. I love the skirt on you . I saw the t-shirts but felt they were a little thin . I seem to be getting holes in my bottom fronts where my jean button hits. You really do a great job with the reviews.Wow that sweater costs big $$$!

    1. I get holes in my underarms, I hate that. I think this were def thicker that most JC tees, but thinner than most St. Jamees tees.
I know, the sweater is too rich for my blood, especially that it will not work in the winter being so nautical, so limited use. On the other hand, it is a lot of cashmere since it is much longer than other sweaters.

  16. Hello, porcelain paisley - you're gorgeous! I actually really like the nubbly texture, I think it shows wrinkles less. That's one reason I've kept away from the smooth textured pencil skirts to date. This looks like a winner!

You have convinced me that I desperately need that porcelain paisley skirt as well, despite the price ;-) How heavy/hot is the skirt fabric?

    1. Marie, it is not heavy at all. I think it is perfectly suited for the summer, of course as much as pencil skirts go.

    2. I ended up ordering it and I LOVE it! It's so pretty and just like you said, not heavy at all. I plan on wearing the s*** out of it ;-)
