Love is a wave

U2 is one of my all-time-favorite bands. Last year I fell in love with their latest album, Songs of Innocence. There are so many wonderful songs and great lyrics there!

If you go your way and I go mine
Are we so...
Are we so helpless against the tide?
Baby, every dog on the street
Knows that we're in love with defeat
Are we ready to be swept off our feet
And stop chasing every breaking wave?

(Every Breaking Wave by U2
from Songs of Innocence)

Martha's Vineyard, the place i love

It is easy to fall in love but at some point in relationship we choose to stay in love and this where I think love truly begins. Love is a choice. We humans are always looking for love in some form, loving our parents, our partners, our children, our friends, our country, our jobs, our dreams for the future, our memories of the past.

I think this may be one of the reasons we celebrate Valentine's Day, to remind ourselves that we are choosing to stay. Wherever we are, there is always some love to hold on to. Even if you are not in a happy place, I believe that when you stay with something you love,  love will find its way back to you. Because love is a wave.

love you so much A!!!

Hugs and kisses to all of you...

  3. A lovely post. You are so right that, at least with partners, at some point love does become a choice, and often, not the easiest one. I've had some struggles this year with my marriage and was ready to walk away, but after a very serious talk with my children, my 12 year old son broke my heart -- when I told him I can't find any love for his dad anymore, he said, but mom, I just know you if you can try hard enough, you'll see that you DO still love him. I dug in and found that yes, because of our shared life and past, I do still love him and we are working through it. But this experience has also shown me that one love that has never been hard has been with my children (and pets, who are like children) -- and I am so thankful for those relationships that I know I can count on lasting a lifetime.

Happy Valentine's Day, and thank you for your insightful reflections. So glad that you are back!

  5. So true. People don't tell you that while you mostly adore your partner, sometimes you hate their guts. The decision to stay and try another day is most definitely the act of love. Beautiful post!
