Shopping while traveling

Do you shop when you travel?  It sounds like fun but I rarely do, for many reasons:
  • I don't want to waste time in the stores and I don't feel like trying things on.
  • I don't have my other clothes/shoes/bags with me to try things together.
  • I am a serial returner and don't like to commit too quickly.
  • I am in a different mindset and tend to lose perspective on what I really need and wear
  • I like to shop alone and I get confused, not helped, by input from (well meaning) others
Because of all of the above I did not plan to shop while in Krakow, but since I have received a gift card from the relative, I had no choice but to use it or lose it.

I used it.

I decided to keep it simple and picked a jersey dress and a black t-shirt.

The dress easy and super comfortable.  The twist in the front and the cocoon shape make it more interesting.  It also came in yellow and I was immediately tempted by the summery hue but I think that would end up being one of those compulsive-vacation-purchases,  so I bought this pretty and much 'safer' teal green.

It has pockets and the length is perfect.  It will travel well, hide any post dinner bulges and it can be dressed up and down with shoes and accesories.

The t-shirt is even more simple.

It has a very nice nipped in the waist and longer in the back shape.

It kind of got 'caught' on my butt in the picture but it actually looks better irl.

The design in made out of raised dots. It is perfect to wear causally but can go a little dressy too. I really like both items and I don't think they will end up unworn, like some other vacation purchases. Maybe I have learned something after all...

That's all folks!
Do you shop when you travel?

Are you usually happy with your vacation buys?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. And you have the perfect shoes for that dress! What a gorgeous colour on you. I'm not much of a shopper when we travel, MrBP is another story. He loves to shop when we are away which works out well for me so I can't complain, he bought me my LV bag when we were in Paris in October after all.

  2. I really love the tee, I think you'll get tons of wear from it. Looks fab with the white skinnies.

Sometimes I shop while on vacation and I almost always shop when I travel for business. I like to visit stores that we don't have here and if I'm not familiar with the destination, I do a bit of research before I arrive so I know exactly where I want to go. I wouldn't spend a whole day but I find taking a few hours to wander about without the urgent pressures of home is a real treat. I've brought home some great finds too.

    1. Thank you xoxo, I already wore that tee twice so I think you are right. You are much more disciplined in your approach to shopping but I agree, shopping on business trips is a bit different, it is a nice distraction while when you are on vacations you don;t need it.

  3. I love both of these pieces. I don't buy too much on vacation for the reasons you note. I do get the odd piece of jewelry and if i can manage, a piece of artwork of some kind. I want to go away with Mr. BP. Do you think Dani will take me on the next trip????

    1. Jewelry and artwork or thing for the home are better bets, although I made mistakes here too. I think there is a line for trip with MrBP...

  4. You look amazing just now, not that you didn't before - but you know what I mean!
I don't shop on holiday, I used to come back with all sorts of rubbish that just didn't work in this light/country.

  6. I'll shop at a ski resort or at Disney World :) but I don't travel anywhere interesting enough to do wardrobe shopping. I used to shop with my mom on vacation, those were the days, fun for us both, but now no one in my family likes to shop and I don't want to leave my family to go shopping. The new teal dress is different and interesting, I like it. I love the black tee.

    1. my mom is a greatest enabler I know so I have to be careful...
I try to avoid buying at ski resorts because it usually results in paying full price for what I could get on sale but I am guilty of that too.

  7. I love both your finds. I can't buy clothing on vacation for all the reasons you mentioned, but I love to checkout pharmacies, para-pharmacies, makeup stores, herbalists, cheese shops, dairy stores, sausage stores, open markets, flying markets....

  8. haha fred, I get your drift... Sausage stores? You'd have a blast in Poland...
