75 and still thinks nothing of 4 inch wedges :) |
My mother has always been my best friend and we are very close. She is one of the most supportive mothers I know, she has always been there for me. I miss living closer to my mother but at least she is surrounded by many great friends, she has visitors or visits others everyday. Her phone is always ringing and she texts all the time. Well, that was a little annoying at times, lol. But hey, I am happy she has way richer social life than me...
I have always been very proud of her because she is smart, fiercely independent, instantly likable (see above), fun to be around and stylish. Guess where I got my 'when in doubt wear black' mantra?
wish I had her waist... |
my mothers favorite diet is coffee with champagne |
Happy faces |
But most of all, my mother is blessed with eternal optimism and generally sunny disposition,
something I always envied her a bit, myself being more of 'partly
cloudy' variety. My mother cannot tell a joke but she is (very) quick to laugh. She wanted me to take the picture with the pansies because they are one of her favorite flowers and I find their happy faces matching her cheerful personality.
I love you Mom!

Oh love your mom - she is a beauty!! What a beautiful, stylish woman, who does NOT look 75, but much younger! I can see where you get your good looks! So glad you got to spend some time together!
ReplyDeleteOh WMM, I have a feeling that you and my mom would get along famously. You are at the top of my 'mostly sunny' list.
Deleteajc, such a lovely post and memory of your visit. Your mum looks happy, style and, as WMM says, not her age at all. Hope I am still sporting wedges decades from now! I also joke/ believe that my dad has a more active social/ phone life than I do. It's a good thing, since as aging either seems to leave you with a tight, vibrant circle or rather alone.
ReplyDeleteSTYLIE!
DeleteThank you GetFresh! I agree, living so far away, it gives me some peace of mind to know that my mother has a lot of friends in her life.
DeleteWhat a wonderful tribute to your mother. My mother is Polish (my father is Chinese - what a combination) and she is very excited to be going to Poland for the first time this week (with her 2nd husband).
ReplyDeleteIt is the best time to visit now, already warm but before the height of the tourist season. It must be exciting to go explore your roots and I am sure they will have an interesting trip.
DeleteHow lovely for you to have this time with your mother. She is certainly an elegant and polished lady. Now I know where you get your sense of style. Is your daughter the photographer? I am amazed at the quality of your pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are better quality than usually because I took my Nikon DSLR camera as opposed to iPhone pictures I usually take. My daughter took almost all the pictures where I am in the shot, others were taken my me. One thing about my mother, she cannot be trusted with the camera, we have running jokes about her horrible framing.
DeleteHow chic is your Mom? No style from mine, but she is a wonderful 88 yr old.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lane!
DeleteYour Mom is amazing! I love her to bits! That waistline is incredible and her diet advice is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a great time together, that cheers me no end.
Thanks Dani! My mother never seems to be eating anything but she seems to think I should be eating all the time. We both love champagne and we downed quite a few bottles.
DeleteAnd the three of us watched so many episodes of Golden Girls, my 10yo is obsessed with the show now.
What a beautiful portrait of your mom you made. She looks amazing, especially in that black dress! I am.glad you got to spend her 75th birthday together, I missed my dad's and mom's. I find that when parents get older birthdays become more important to us, like ours were for them when we were children.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about it but I think you are rightabout the birthdays, Ema. I am glad we are able to be together and I promised myself I will make time (and save money) to visit more often.
DeleteI hope your mother reads your blog entry -- if I could have only one wish it would be that I could be the kind of mother that inspires my children to feel the way you do about yours.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun visit -- I hope you two have another soon!
My mom was laughing about this blog entry and her pictures (she thinks she always looks awful in the pictures) but she was touched. I think we sometimes do not express enough the love we feel for our parents. Many times it is the most conflicted relationship we have and currently the cultural tide turns towards expressing the 'wounded child' (that we all carry inside) and sometimes at the cost of suppressing the positive feelings and considering them immature and superficial.
DeleteYour mom is awesome. 75 years old ???? Go, mom !!!!!!!!!!!!
