J.Crew June Style Guide And The New Arrivals

Have you checked out the J.Crew new arrivals and June Style Guide?  In case you haven't received the June catalog, Gigi has scanned it for us here. Thank you Gigi!

I have received the catalog and I quite like the looks. The Tanzania setting certainly adds to the appeal but does not come with the clothes, unfortunately ;) I have browsed through the pages and I liked quite a few of the outfits. Then, I realized that I liked them because I already own the pieces and wear them often.  So yeah, white looks good with denim...

but how come I don't own light wash jeans???

Don't worry, that's binoculars, not a gun

substitute animal print clutch for the wildlife...
I knew it!

 White goes with black...

Even if I am not so wild about the Minnies... I do want the silver sandals.  But I would look for a better value point.

Moving on from the basics, let's talk about the prints.

I like the Hawaian shirt but I have too many button downs and long sleeve may not be that practical for a NJ summer.

The shorts are cute but I have not worn my last year's Apple shorts enough, so I think I will pass.

Now, I want this print in the knee length full skirt. Because I am still stuck on this image, that I saw a while ago posted by FFM:

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZFvcdj2VEghzgeamTWGH3Ot2rieZrzgA1NX0rJQ5MGoibtUbApzvCNmLIXvoAfjlQxc4VxxWM_GZVOkrjrF1ote3989MYNzdQlWwUFOMaIbH-Q663m5FS5-1fgVzNoXGUFpHDxI-_IE8/s1600/Love+This.53+%28Vanessa+Jackman%29.jpg

Of course, if JC made it, it would be a 'Collection' piece with exorbitant price, like this:

Collection silk pocket tee in Toulouse floral

Fortunately, I don't lust after this one. And am I loosing my eyesight or do you see a pocket?

I liked the bridal section shots with the flower background.

Note to self: I need to position myself next to flower displays more often...

That's all folks!

What do you think of the new arrivals?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. AJC, I just posted out on JCA. If you want to try a pair of metallic sandals, try the Tabbie T-Strap. I have them in Navy, super comfortable and now on sale for $98 online. My B&M has them in stock and has agreed to match price, so they are holding the metallic silver for me. Plus you should be able to use the SHOPNOW promo. HTH.

    1. Thank you JRSConifer! I need to stop at the store to return something so I will check them out.

  2. I have checked them out briefly. Nothing I would like to have, I'm just not into it. And the nicest looks in the style guide are the most basic, as you pointed out... white with denim and white with black, most of us can replicate the feeling of these outfits.
The hawaiian sunset print reminds me of Miami Vice which is not a happy thought for me. Some people love it I know, I'm just not into prints right now generally. The Toulouse print is pretty but I don't care for that boxy shape and the price is outrageous. And I don't see a pocket either!
I also like that look FFM posted, it's not my style but I love it. You could totally rock that look.

    1. I am actually surprised that I like the Hawaiian shirt. I hated the Barbados than many like. I think it is actual cheesy-ness of it that somehow appeals to me for summer wear, something about letting go, but in the end I don't think I would actually wear so best to stay away.

  3. Not sure if you shop at TJ Maxx or Marshalls much, but Marshalls in particular has a TON of various metallic sandals right now.

I am not really into the new arrivals either... nothing I have to have. I like the Toulouse print but why couldn't they have made it a nice tank or something? Meh.

It is great that you're shopping your closet!

    1. That's a great idea, I have to pop in into Marshalls. For shoes like that I also had good luck at Lord and Taylor or even Macys.

  4. There are no must haves for me this time. I'll still go have a look in person in case they're very different irl. I have a feeling not. There's a very thrift store feel to some of the pieces. Like bad 80s thrift.

  5. The only thing that wowed me was the Monarch Butterfly scarf which jcrewismyfavoritestore blog posted. It's not online yet but the stores have them. It's the same print as the collection monarch sweater and skirt. Other than that one item, the arrivals and outfit pairings are not inspiring. Loved the location but not the new pieces.

    1. Oh, a scarf sounds pretty and is about the only place I would wear butterflies, as much as I like them.

  6. I do not see a pocket either and I zoomed in as much as possible. I didn't see anything I liked other than the linen twist-front dress but I don't need another suiting dress at this point, certainly not in wrinkly linen. Fine for casual wear but I'm not showing up at the office looking like a shar pei. You're right that a lot of the looks are unremarkable.

The Hawaiian shirt with the yellow striped pants... hold on to that photo and take a look at it in 5 years time. You will laugh your AO. I'm laughing now but I suspect others may find the combination "inspiring". That makes it even more funny IMO.

    1. xoxo, I wholeheartedly agree with your second paragraph. I can't believe anyone is even considering that shirt, let alone the entire outfit. Some of the new items are real head scratchers.

    2. You are probably right about the pairing, it does have the clownish quality. Or a case of emperor's new clothes...

  7. AJC can we sub-contract you to subtitle Gayle's much-vaunted favourite looks, pretty please?! You had me at "white goes with..." BTW, there was a rather lovely set of floral photos on the JC blog talking about stylist going to flower market for the weddings & parties shots.

    1. Thank you GetFresh, I don't usually like to poke fun at people because it is often an easy shot but sometimes you just cannot help it.

  8. Hi AJC - I am with you - liked the neutral looks and can replicate them myself so am okay! The things I sort of like are so darn expensive they are no gos!

    1. The prices on some of those pieces are ridiculous but it is usually also a good predictor of what would end up in sale at 25% of the price. Which is still going to be a lot for a Toulouse shirt.

  9. Agree with your thoughts that the best looks are the most simple - white and faded denim is just such a great summer look!
I have a strange hankering for that red linen skirt with butterflies on it. I'm sure the urge will pass, though.
I want more nice printed skirts and less outrageously priced collection nonsense.

    1. Hi Ruth, glad you decided to comment! Simple is always the best bet imo. I may have the pieces but on the other hand, it is good that JC keeps making them so other can build and I we can replace. Agree about the printed skirts and prices. And when they make them, could the skirts be at least 20" long?

  10. PS, I don't think I've commented on your blog before, but I very much enjoy reading it. Thanks!

  11. I have J. Crew fatigue now, which is a very strange feeling after so many years of obsession. I looked through the offerings today and couldn't find anything to get really excited over. The photos look nice though, and I agree, many of the looks can be recreated with items from past seasons that I think most JCAs already have in their closets.

    1. I have been off crewlade for some time (I think since my no fitting room pictures incident, although i did not realize it then) but after some time you get even more distant perspective and realize how hyped up this stuff is and how little of it has good value. I bought 6 items total this year, 2 of which were from J.Crew store (I also got a pair of shoes on ebay). Even for basics I am looking elsewhere because prices on say t-shirts are better at GAP or Everlane, now that I don't want all the colors JC offers anymore.
