Summer Party

Lat weekend I got invited to the party at my friends house. I knew the party would start around 5 PM and will probably continue till midnight.  It is always a very fun crowd and I love those parties but of course, I always have a slight dilemma what to wear.  I knew that most guests (especially the women) will be dressed up but not in full party attire, so no cocktail dresses but no jeans either.

I wanted to wear something that would be a little festive but also I wanted to be comfortable. I did not want to wear black since the party started early and it was going to be hot.  I went through a few options and some seemed too dressy and some too casual but eventually I decided to wear this:

I am not sure were this tank is from since I got it as gift from my daughter couple of years ago but I think it was from Urban Outfitters. I like that it has some sparkle but it is not sequins.  I also like that it is blue, not black because the muted shade tones it down even more.

I have to admit that the key to wearing this type of top is finding a right strapless bra.  Most strapless bras are push ups and I hate them, but I love this unlined bra from Soma.  It stays in place has no weird gaping in front, does not squish my girls into an 'uni-boob', does not sit too low and has a very natural look under tanks.

My pants are from J.Crew, they are Maddie linen trousers from two years ago.  My clutch is from Banana Republic and my pewter sandals are from  Sofft.

I think the racer back is what ultimately makes this top party appropriate. Of course it is also great in the very hot weather we have been having recently.

I  brought my denim jacket, just in case it would get a little colder at night but it was never necessary.  I was happy with my outfit, it was perfect for the occasion and I was very comfortable.

That's all folks!

What is your ultimate summer party attire when you don't want to be over or under-dressed?  Do you even have that dilemma?

Do you have a favorite strapless bra?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. I really like this and think the racer back tank is perfect!

I think it is hard - last night I wore my boho top and jeans with (our) new Allie sandals in silver - will post this a.m. But that was okay because it wasn't too hot.

If it is really hot, I almost always go with a dress of some sort, preferably sleeveless. Or a tank and a slightly longer skirt of trousers, such as you did. Hmmm - off to go put together some options!

    1. Yes, the high temperature makes most of my regular choices seem oppressive. I like linen pants but linen top would be sloppy for a party imo. That boho top was such a great outfit!

  2. You have a great back. And what a good job getting that photo! Thank you for the link to the strapless bra -- there is a Soma store in my local mall but I have never been in -- I am sort of self conscious about going in to a lingerie shop somehow (just like I am still embarrassed when "feminine product" commercials come on TV) but this will make it worthwhile. I wear strapless very often (hot DC summers) but you're right, all of mine are pushup and underwire and very uncomfortable!

    1. Push ups and hot summers don't mix in my wardrobe. Sometimes it feels like every bra has the boobs already build in, lol.

  3. This is a great look, effortlessly chic as they say. Nice choice to show off your toned yoga figure too. It took me forever to find a good strapless bra but I have only worn it once. I prefer to cover my shoulders to keep the sun off. I will usually wear a dress or skirt and feminine top in these situations. The Altuzarra Manon skirt was a favorite last year and will likely see a lot of wear this summer too.

    1. Bra shopping is a nightmare in general and strapless or multi-way are the worst. This Soma bra feels more like a bandeau and therefore more secure and less bouncy. And no enhancements, not every woman is looking for it.
I loved that Manon skirt and almost bought it, it is such a great choice for you.

  4. Great outfit, it's perfect for a summer party. I really like that top. I am avoiding Urban Outfitters now, though, since when I ordered from them online last year, the store would only take back the return for store credit. It was annoying and I ended up mailing back the items instead. Now if it were something great like your tank, I wouldn't have had to worry about it because I'd have kept it!

    1. I never buy from UO, I think I have one skirt, but that's it. That's and awful return policy, I would avoid them too if it happened to me.

  5. The backview of the tank is beautiful. You're so fit. It looks and sounds like it was the perfect choice.

  6. Thank you Gigi. But to be totally honest it took few tries to get the back view presentable, first couple pictures horrified me and I learned what a difference posture means, lol.

  7. What a great outfit, you look so chic - I love it! The racerback of the tank really gives it an edge and shows off your toned upper back.
