Red after Christmas

Do you get bored with red after Christmas? I often do. It just loses some of its appeal by the time Christmas decorations come down. This year I was actually very good with taking down my decorations and got rid of everything by January 6th. I often kept them a week or two longer, not because I love them so much but because I was being lazy and it is definitely not as exciting to put them away as it was to put them up in December.  Although it is not a pleasant task, the consolation prize is getting back, my suddenly so much bigger, Living Room!

Isn't is funny how the winter is just starting in January, but with the retail cycle always throwing us couple of months ahead of the calendar, it suddenly feels like we should be already thinking about spring? It is silly of course, and I am still hoping to do a lot of skiing and ice skating this year.

But to get away from the wintery coziness of the deep reds I decided to pair my scarlet Brora sweater with pink, including liberty print perfect shirt, pink Valentina shoes and pink Banana Republic necklace. I was quite happy with the way this outfit turned out and it did not feel too wintery.

That's all folks!

Are you already thinking spring in your sartorial choices or are you still deep in winter mode? Do you associate red sweaters with Christmas?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!

  1. Still in super-winter mode here. It was cold again yesterday, I'm wearing all of my Brora layers these days.
I don't have much red, I do have one mohair skirt from Brora in a red plaid, I usually wear it with black or gray.
I like the red with the pink, they suit you , these colours!

    1. Thank you Dani, we just got some snow last night so it suddenly got much more wintery but I think it is going to melt. I have been wearing a lot of Brora these days but I have to wash some of my sweaters and I was putting it off forever.

  2. I definitely feel a bit confused right now but that always happens after Christmas. I usually associate darker, more saturated colors with winter, but now all I see are bright summer colors at the stores - oh the confusion! But I think reds are here to stay year round :) its a classic shade.

    1. I don't really associate red with Christmas, it's an all year colour for me.

    2. I am like you Tasia, more saturated colors from October to December and then somehow I want to think bright and light. But I do like red, it comes right after blue in my non-neutral choices (although some say red IS neutral).

  3. Red looks great on me and is a year around favorite. Red plaid screams Christmas to me so that I do avoid after holidays.

I am not even tired of my winter clothes yet - barely been able to wear them. We are mostly in the 40s here and have not even used my winter coat. Sweater/scarf is most I need. Sigh...so many cozy pretty things and can't wear them.

(now that I have said that watch it temps plummet!)

Like your red/pink combo. Can be a tricky mix but your shades are great together.

    1. I cannot even wear red plaid around Christmas, I think since my older daughter used to wear red plaid uniform to school.
You are right, it has been in 40s here as well and last weekend in upper 50s! it is only start of the winter, it is just the retailers that are getting ready for spring.

  4. I like red a lot, too. I don't have much these days, except for a lovely red coat, but I would definitely wear red whenever. I really like the red/pink combo - it seems so sweet to me!

  5. I never get bored of red. It is a happy color. With Valentine's Day fast approaching, window displays are full of reds :)

    1. It is true, I also notice that even if I feel iffy about some red items I always get plenty of compliments, I think it also makes other people happy.

  6. I don't wear red that much and it is definitively more appealing to me before Xmas. I bought the heather red cashmere cable but decided to return because I am just not a red person. I was in all black today, what a weather, we got that mix of snow and rain too. I ended up going to the movies because I was depressed by the weather and my daughter had a playdate after school (saw "Silver Linings Playbook" which is definitively a feel good movie. Did you see it?)

    1. Oh it was so gloomy today, you are right. Ema, I am convinced you would look great in red. I haven't heard of Silver Lining Playbook, have to look it up. I just saw The Beasts of Southern Wild from Netflix and it was not as good as I was hoping but definitely interesting.
