Emerson Made Silk Pockets Blouse Review

I have mentioned to you that I have recently placed an order with Emerson made. I have already reviewed the tie waist dress and orange slangbacks here. The dress and shoes were definitely an extras for me and not something I needed but I decided to buy them because I really loved both and the price was right. Well, we can always find thousands of ways to justify an impulse purchase but, on the other hand, I never regretted buying things I truly liked.

This blush blouse however, was in another category. This was something that I wanted to have in my closet and I have in the past considered the collection blouse from J.Crew (not sure about the name, I remember Dani had one) and recently the pleated chiffon blouse. With the Emerson Made version I knew the fabric is going to be superior and the quality great, so at the sale price ($98) the value should be good.
I have ordered size M and it fits well. Emerson tops run short imo, but they have long sleeves. I do have proportionally short arms, so the sleeves may not be so long on you. I am 5'6 but probably have arms of somebody who is 5'4, lol.
The fabric feels great against the skin. It is the type of silk that is matte on the outside and satiny inside. It has some heft to it and I is NOT see through.
I love this blouse and it works great tucked in or untucked. It may be a little short if you like longer tops, but I like it because it is easier to wear untucked and it does not create bulk under my bottoms when tucked in.
I am also wearing J.Crew midrise toothpicks in carbon wash, Ann Taylor belt, J.Crew Valentina pumps, Kate Spade purse and Rayban Aviator sunglasses.

That's all folks!
What do you think of Emerson's pocket blouse?
Is it worth the sale price?

White and Silver

I think I have mentioned before that I was looking for a pair of white jeans and silver shoes.  Of course, I could look for them somewhere else but since I already knew the fit, I decided to order from J.Crew, using the 30% off CARDSTYLE promo.

midrise toothpick in white denim

I have previously ordered a few pairs of midrise toothpicks and I was hoping the white jeans would fit the same.  You can check my reviews of dark denim HERE and cords HERE.

They do.  I love the fit. The midrise is high enough to contain the muffin top...

avert your eyes if you are sensitive ;)

But not too high to result in 'long flat butt', the bane of my existence...

close your eyes again...

This is a size 28, which is one size up from my matchstick size.  I wear 4 in pencil skirts and trousers. They are very comfortable and I like the feel of the denim. Not sure if they will stretch out and sag but my cords and dark jeans don't, so let's hope for the best.

you can look now...

The ankle length is perfect to show off your shoes.

Speaking of shoes...

Miri midheel pumps
I was seriously lacking silver metallic shoes.  They are the 2013 new black and you cannot live without a pair of black pumps, can you?  These puppies are not cheap, even with a discount, but the are leather lined with leather soles and sensible, but not frumpy, 2 7/8 heel.  I kind of wish they were pointy but round is more comfortable.

I ordered my regular 8.5 and they are a perfect fit. When I first put them on they felt a little tight but even after only few minutes they adjusted to my feet.  This is perfect, because while nobody wants shoes that are too tight, I also hate the slip heel.  They seem stable and comfortable, as far as narrow heels go.

in emergency, use as a mirror
The silver is very shiny and indeed, they are not kidding when they say 'mirrored'.  I like that, as they definitely bring sparkle to any outfit, but just wanted to let you know that it is not subtle, matte silver.

That's all folks!

Do you own silver shoes?

Anybody can please tell me that those toothpicks will not stretch? Well, if they do stretch also tell me before I wear them and it is too late...

I am off to visit my mother and I will be back on 5/15.  Most likely I will not have time to post or comment much, so I will 'see' you when I came back, hopefully with some good pictures!

J.Crew High-Waisted Skinny And Midrise Toothpick

Did you get an email from J.Crew with the subject announcing "the fall guide to denim"? It includes link to J.Crew denim collection and encourages you to "upgrade your denim'.

Well, I was rather skeptical about the "upgrade" since I always thought J.Crew jeans are overpriced, use mediocre fabrics (despite lofty claims in the copies), and the fit is barely OK. Even though my closet is dominated by J.Crew, I only own one pair of J.Crew jeans: the destroyed matchsticks and I only bought them because the price was $13.99.

But on my recent visit to the store, I decided to try on the high-waisted skinny and the midrise toothpick.

New high-waisted skinny jean in night owl wash
The are listed online/catalog only, so maybe it was a return, but I found them in the sale section in my size. They would have been very inexpensive with additional 25% off plus the 20% off coupon I had (about $35!).

Size 27

But there was no surprise with the fit. They are just OK.

They are difinitely high rise, they go up to my navel. It feels a little constricting because of the sausage-stuffing effect and I did not see a benefit of it . I would not dare to wear them with the top tucked in

The backview was OK, if not great. I don't generally expect great, so I would say it is acceptable but nothing to write home about. I did not like the wash. It was just... flat.

The length is as expected. I don't usually like the bunching at the ankles, so I would probably wear them cuffed.

Overall, I think they are not bad for the current sale price plus discount, but I was not wowed enough to pull out my wallet.

Midrise toothpick jean in carbon
I have tried the toothpick cords in the past and did not like the fit. They were too tapered, too short, too low rise and they had extra fabric sticking out in the hips while giving me a muffin top at the same time.

But these got my attention by being strategically located on the table in the middle of the store, near the entrance. I liked the wash and I decided I would give them a try, without having much hope.
Size 28
These again are listed as online/catalog only, but they were definitely stocked in my store, so you can check in yours, if you are interested. To my surprise, they fitted quite well. No extra fabric in the hips. Maybe I finally accumulated some fat tissue there? I would not mind, actually. But I think it has something to do with being midrise, somehow the proportion changes and it works better for my body type. At least this is my theory, what do you think?

They are perfect ankle length on me, I am 5'6. I think they wooul look great with booties and heels (and with boots of course) but you can also try them with oxfords and loafers. It might be that I have warmed up to the idea of ankle length pants, they don't elongate the leg as much as longer pants but I like how they show the ankle bones.

I have to admit, I like the rear view, this is about the best I can get. If they were any cheaper I probably would have bought them already but I am still tempted.

I usually take 28 in toothpicks, but just in case, I decided to try the 27 as well, thinking that they may stretch.

Size 27

So they fit about the same, just a little tighter. They were not awfully uncomfortable so they might be good if they do stretch. What is your experience? Do you size down to account for stretching?

For some reason they seemed longer, is it possible?

Also, the pocket placement seem a little different and my butt looks flatter, but maybe it is an angle of the picture? Do they look like the same jeans to you?

Overall, I really liked the toothpicks. Looking at the pictures, I like the 28 better, but probably would have to try them on again to compare.I don;t need them now but I will reconsider if they go on sale.

What do you think?
Have you tried any mid or high rise denim from J.Crew and if so, do you like the fit?
Do they stretch in your experience? Should I get the 27 or 28?

Please share, it would be no fun without you!!!
