MacAlister Boots Review

As you may know, I love blue and navy. So when I saw that the navy MacAlisters were available on sale with an additional 30% off I could not resist them. I have two other pairs of MacAlister type booties and I love them both. I have almost bougth the brown MacAlisters from J.Crew two years ago but then I found the pair from Coach that I liked better at the same price, so I returned them.

Cute navy shoes are always hard to find. These only come in half sizes and I am 8.5 so I originally sized up to 9. But the 9s were way too big even with socks and my feet were sliding. So I reordered them in size 8 and they are perfect with tights. If I wanted to wear them with thick socks I think they will still stretch.

The color is very pretty medium navy that definitely looks blue and not black.They are comfortable and I actually  think I could walk some distance with them. They are not as comfortable as my Coach wedges but they are blue!

They do stick out a little bit in the back of the heel. I like the contrast of the darker shoe with the lighter sole.

Overall, I really like them and I can tell that I will wear them a lot. I loved how they looked with my Gallerista skirt and Madewell Academy blazer.

Here are my brown coach wedges that are one of most comfortable shoes I own. I have spend a day walking in NYC wearing them and I can vouch for their comfort. I am wearing them with my 2007 Gramercy coat in Alpine Green. I have since sold the coat because green is just not for me.

Contrary to J.Crew MacAlisters, Coach wedges are lined and padded and that definitely makes the difference.

Another pair of MacAlisters that I own is the Shearling vesion that they also offer this year. I have bought mine last year but they seem to be identical. I also sized down in these. They felt a little tight at first but they have molded to my feet. They are also very comfortable and warm.

Below is the picture of my first outfit without the blazer. Many time I would take of the blazer at work so whatever I wear under it has to work on its own. I decided to go for a plain blue perfect crewneck and I like the almost monochromatic look.

Pattern Mixing with J.Crew Stretch Denim Jacket

I am not big on pattern mixing but sometimes I like to have some fun with it. An easy way to do it, is to choose simple color palette like blue, black and white and put together simple geometric print (stripes or polka dots) with big floral.

In this outfit dashes of ochre in the skirt and green necklace keeps it from being too predictable.

This outfit consists of some favorite pieces in my wardrobe. The skirt is in one of my all time favorite J.Crew prints. I was examining the details and sadly, it may be one of the last instances where the lining is in acetate and the hem is over 2 inches wide in case you want to let it down. I remember when most J.Crew skirts and dresses were made this way, but it seems a distant memory now.

 

The jacket is J.Crew Stretch denim jacket. It is very similar cut as Nolita denim jacket but it has more stretch in it (90% cotton, 8% Polyamide and 2% Elastane). It has a clean medium blue wash, very classic. It fits well and it is very soft. It is nicely defined in the chest and nipped in the waist. I am wearing size Medium and I would say it runs rather small. Last time I tried Nolita jacket I was in between sizes, but this one I don;t think I could button in Small.

I didn't wear a denim jacket for quite a long time, but I love this one. I always thought that any time I would like to wear a denim jacket, I would already be in jeans and I was not totally sold on denim-on-denim look, even with fancy heels. But I realized that with its cropped shape, this jacket will be fun with colorful skirts or over dresses. Plus, it is soooo comfortable.

Friday's OOTD round up

I didn't do an OOTD post for a while. Here are some outfits I have been wearing recently:

Gallerista Skirt

My Gallerista skirt is one of my favorite J.Crew purchases from last year and I was waiting, not so patiently, for spring to be able to wear it again. I like it with denim top to offset the dressiness of the skirt. It was the stock picture of this skirt that made me purchase my black Valentinas.

Liberty shirt and Italian Boucle pencil

You have seen both pencil skirt and the shirt but not together, I think. These are the last days I could still get away with wearing the wool pencil skirt, but the color definitely helps with transitioning to spring. With the busy print of the shirt, I didn't want to add any accessories but I like the belt with it. Those belts (I have the pink one as well, see below) are great, a little wider than skinnies and very soft. 

Merci Stripe tee & Ann Taylor capris

I am very happy with the Merci stripe tee and I have been wearing it a lot. I like it with white Ann Taylor capris. I added black ballet flats and black accessories to keep it from being too summery though.

Superfine cotton pencil 

This was no nonsense all navy outfit to keep it business like. I had a presentation that day and I did not want any distractions. I did add the pink belt to make it more 'me'.

Raj Paisley pencil

Here I got to wear my Raj Paisley skirt to church. It looked good with red . I saw a picture on Rynetta's blog with pink top, I have to try that combo next time.

Cotton v-neck & Silk Indigo skirt

This cotton v-neck is not the best quality or fit but the main reason I kept it was that I saw that I can wear it with my Silk Indigo skirt. The cobalt blue of this skirt is very hard to match and I've been wearing it with navy and black but the sweater is a perfect shade for it, so for 19.99 I decided to keep it and I am glad I did.

Paintbox cardi

The above was my Friday outfit and I didn't think it was exciting but I got a lot of complements, I think people like colorful, cheerful outfits.
