Does all classic and no twist make J.Crew a dull girl?

What is red, white and blue, feels familiar and is  striped all over?

J.Crew Spring 2012 Collection!!!

This was not so evident when we saw the previews in the fall and I was expecting more greens, yellows, purples and pinks. Don't get me wrong, the red, white and blue are great and classic, but I am getting a little bored with it. Not mentioning stripes and polka dot overload. Plus, the Jules dress and Talitha blouse seem to be reproducing faster and faster with each rollout. I know we all have been asking for return the the 'good old days' and more classics, so thank you J.Crew for listening, but... where is 'The Twist'?

I am really sorry J.Crew, you know I still love you, it is just that I am falling asleep in the fitting rooms these days. You think we can try some 'experimenting', to spice things up a little bit?  It is probably not you, it's me...

Wait! I take it back. This is really cute!!! I knew you can do it!

Ultra eyelet shell
It looks promising. And I NEED the red top.  It is even on The List (my shopping list for this year).

It also comes in white, but I think this is a little too chaste for me, at my age ;)

I have labeled front and back, so I don't get confused ;) See what happened with Villa dress review yesterday.

$98 100% cotton, both eyelet and lining :)
In Chili (to spice things up):

Eyelet Hookup
Sorry, I cannot help myself and have to use the 'Hookup' term, every chance I get.

Boy meets girl?

Shell is size 8
I would say it runs small. I had to get an 8 and I am almost always a 6 in tops and shirts.
The neckline is very high and it was not very comfortable. Maybe I just have a thick neck? Sigh...
Overall, it is very cute and the red color is gorgeous and very flattering imo. I think it would work much better if your chest is smaller and your neck is long and slender. I think it would be great with jeans, the way they styled it on the website. I am very glad the lining is cotton and not, God forbid, polyester.

Back-zip long-sleeve pullover

If you are not completely striped out this is very nice. It is a thicker cotton than for example Spindrift sweatshirt which I reviewed HERE. It fits TTS but it seems relatively narrow in the hips, so you may want to size up to accommodate it. You can see below that this would give you more slouchy fit, probably better if you want to wear it with jeans. It feels comfortable and easy to wear.

Hefty zipper but not exposed

I liked it a lot but I think I am striped out and cannot get excited about it. The color code is BLA so I think this is black and white. I can never tell in the fitting room light.

I don't see the tank below online, but it is very cute. It has scalloped edges and eyelet detail, very sweet.

skirt size 6
I sized up in the No. 2 pencil skirt in ultra eyelet. I always wear size 4 in pencil skirts but i thought it was too tight. Size 6 fits me nicely.  It is a very pretty skirt and the color is divine.

tank size Small

tank seems to be also in chili

What I didn't like, was the shadows that form where the eyelet is separated from the lining. I think it looked worse irl that in the pictures. Do you think this is totally OCD?

When I was about to leave I noticed couple of other items:

Polka dot (again) capri pants on the display. Seem to be the same print as Polka-dot pencil skirt. They were not in the store.

White and navy Edie Attache bag

Oh, I really wish it had a top zipped or another closure because the open top is a deal breaker for me as I shown you HERE.

That's all folks

Do you think J.Crew is getting repetitive or am I being 'So Cruel'?
Are you OK with all classic or do we really need a twist?

Do you like any of the pieces from today's review?

Fitting Room Reviews - Feb 2012

My J.Crew store is a 'concept store' and gets the new arrivals couple weeks ahead of other stores.
I got excited when I saw that they have already received the green flower print peplum top from Spring 2012 Lookbook because I knew quite a few JCAs were interested in it. I also spotted new tipped schoolboy blazer and I thought I would take few pictures of Edie Attache bag.

For the purpose of judging how the items run I am 5'6, 135 pounds (on a good day), 34D, 30" waist, 37" hips. I almost always wear size 4 in J.Crew pencil skirts and city fit pants, 27 in denim, 6 in high waisted items, size 6-8 in dresses and tops, and I am between Small and Medium in non numerical items. Oh, and my arms are relatively short, many times the long sleeves are too long on me.

What do you think?

Here is my take:

I think the flower top would be cute if you are young, tall, willowy and, if in any circumstances, you are never ever mistaken for your (wealthy) aunt Mildred, currently happily retired in some sunny location. If you aswered yes to all the above, you can add a tulip shaped puffy skirt (in what color?) and rock the  Dior Spring 2012 silhouette.

Unfortunately, I am past the  ironic stage and curtain style flower prints may be taken all too seriously on me. This top is not for me, but I can see it looking fabulous on many of you. The peplum puffs away from a body, I was trying to get side shot but it was above my self photographing skills. I think it fits TTS, not much difference between 6 & 8, see the pictures. I'd prefer 8 because of the lower waist.

Edie Attache Bag is very nice, beautiful color and right size, and being able to carry it cross body is a plus. But the lack of secure closure on top is a deal breaker for me. If I put my laptop/ipad there I would worry that it might get wet. What if I leaned over to pick up something, would  my lipstick and keys fly out through the opening? It is a very structure bag, which also means it sticks away from the body, I don't like that look.

The schoolboy blazer is very nice. It has the usual schoolboy fit, not the greatest on me but that is expected, I am not a fan of schoolboy cut. Since it is linen it wrinkles but that gives it more relaxed fit, not a bag thing.
It is soft and it would be easy to wear with any color top underneath. It will go well with jeans and dresses.
I like the piping, since I never got a tipped double serge blazer I am not so bored with the look. On the other hand, the price is steep for this kind of blazer, I think you can find something similar for less.

That's all folks.
No, I still I did not buy anything and nothing went on my wishlist.

How about you?
